Going skating with Joel in a little bit, then heading to a birthday party for my friend's adorable baby girl, and then it's double header bout night!! Today will be an exciting day.
Had an awesome birthday yesterday. Won't get into details, but it felt good to be recklessly irresponsible and do some things that I had been wanting to do for a long time. I feel great about being single and having my whole life ahead of me.
^Happy belated birthday! I'm glad it was a good one. We had a double header bout last night. The first was a team of our vets against the girls who most recently passed their skills tests, and I was really proud of how well our freshies did against the more experienced players. Then our travel team played a team from California. Score was tied at halftime, and it was tied again with two minutes left to go. We pulled ahead by like 8 points and won! It was an amazing bout, one of the best I've ever seen, and I'm really proud of how much our travel team has improved.
The first draft of my dissertation is FINISHED!!! Okay, so it's going to need some heavy polishing, and I'm a long way from happy with my conclusion, but who gives a crap? I've actually got a first draft down!
There's only 31 days left of school, and I have the option to opt out of my finals if I choose because of my grades! I'm not looking forward to spring break ending, but I'm trying to put a positive spin on going back to school, and it won't be all bad -- I can use my study hall for my hour and 5 minutes of reading time like I usually do, and I can go back to print journalism!
Just got home from our weekend away, where we met some truly wonderful writers, editors, and publishers. We met the woman who accepted one of Dan's stories for an Australian magazine and she sang him and his story praises left right and centre! We also met Sean Williams who wrote The Force Unleashed, and had a lovely conversation with him, I had no idea who he was until afterwards to be honest, we aren't Star Wars fans, but our son is, so are getting a signed copy of the book for him, we also met some other really wonderful writers and generally had an amazing time. We also abducted one guy for an evening talking about Zombies and horror. hahaha! Conventions DEFINITELY benefit writers. No matter what people say, going to a convention is a great idea for writers, not only for the talks about writing, but for meeting and greeting writers, editors and publishers, as well as fans and having tea and drinks with them is just brilliant. Can't wait til our next one!!! I was also attacked by some fluffy Star Wars mat thing... soooooooooo damn funny!
Sidewinder: Happy belated birthday! Glad you had a good one. Banzai: Well done! That must be such a relief to get the first draft finished. Torana: Haha, sounds like you had a great time.
It's my sisters birthday tomorrow, but since she's going back to college tonight we kinda pretended today was her birthday and had birthday cake and gave her presents and such. But, I'm going with her tonight so I'll sleep over at her place and then I'll be there with her tomorrow so I can give her my presents then and we can (even though she has to go to class and I have to study) do something fun.
The books I'm currently reading are really good and interesting, and the first day back at school isn't as bad as I thought it would be -- I have all my homework done and it was pretty easy. Thank goodness my teachers took pity on us today.
Glad to hear your first day back was a good one. I have two more days of flashcard writing ahead of me before I'm done with those, and I just finished the third section of the math review I'm working on. My score went up ten percent from the last time I took it...but I still don't get how you love math so much, Cog. I had nightmares last night about solving linear equations.
Just get back to my trainee job after spending 2 weeks in Egypt. And now i only have about four weeks left as a trainee and then im done with school for now
My 17 month old decided he was going to help unload the dishwasher and put all the bowls and plates away. A big job for a tiny toddler, but he did an amazing job and put them all in their right place too. He is such a sweetheart for helping Amity and I like that.
Apparently David Milliband is doing a Q&A session at my uni, next week. So I'm gonna go along, ingratiate myself with him, and try and persuade him to come to the Labour Society session in the evening. Huzzah!
The new Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows trailer..... Oh god. Just.... BEAUTIFUL. I seriously screamed and flailed when I saw it and there's only 79 days left until it premieres. Yes I've been keeping a count.
YES! I have work experience placements at both the Sunderland Echo, and the Northumberland Gazette newspapers. I couldn't be more happy right now.
