This has probably been asked and aswered before, but this thread is getting kind of big so I'm not even gonna bother to look... What do you guys eat for in-between-meals? This has been my biggest problem so far when it comes to dieting. Even though my main meals are relatively healthy, the little snacks and stuff I eat between them are really not. This week I've tried with fruits and veggies, and it's been working out great. I ate a whole watermelon by myself today... dunno how that happened. It was just gone all of a sudden. But anyway, my dad says it's not good to eat that much fruit and veggies. What I eat for snacks are carrot/cucumber sticks without dip, oranges, apples, kiwis, bananas, strawberries, and just lots of berries... in one day. When I think about it, I have been skipping breakfast and supper and eaten this instead. Probably not good.
Hmm...I'm no expert, but aside from maybe messing with your number twos, I really don't think that eating too many fruits and veggies is a bad thing. If you're looking for other options, though, I make trail mix to snack on. Or granola bars. Uhh...I eat peanut butter toast as a snack a lot. If I think of other things, I'll let you know. String cheese. That's another good snack. Yum yum.
I could see my stomach muscles last week. Now I have a thin layer of fat covering them. Crap. (I'm pretty short, so I can gain a layer of fat after just a few inactive days. Flip side is I can get visibly trimmer and leaner after one good workout.)
First proper run of this new fitness thing today. Ran about a mile and a half. 14 minutes 27 seconds, although this was affected by knee trouble meaning the last 200 yards took about 2 minutes on their own. Had to keep stopping, because I'm so out of shape. But it has started! The target for that route is 10 minutes without stoppages.
Call me a cop-out, but I just do P90X, let the instructors tell me what to do, press fast-forward occasionally when they're being moronic, and... that's about it. I don't do much just to "get fit", I prefer to get fit through activities I'd already be doing. I at a fast-pace seafood restaurant as the only dishwasher, and let me tell you, that is the hardest job I've ever had. I will not gain weight in fat while working there, lol. I also teach Martial Arts on the side, so those two plus the p90x translates to staying in pretty good shape.
My wife and I just joined the local YMCA after a four-year absence. Now that I'm working reasonable hours, I should be able to make time for a few workouts a week. Mostly, I'm looking forward to getting back to swimming regularly. I'm not very good at it, but I do enjoy it.
I hear swimming is one of the best work-outs you can do, as it is very well-rounded and can train you both for cardio and strength, plus it doesn't destroy your joints through impact like running does.
Chicken breast, red potatoes and a glass or two of milk is one of my favorite suppers. Getting fit is also eating well, and who says it has to be bad?
Totally depends on what your goal(s) is/are. Are you trying to lose fat and gain muscle? I've been lowering my calories and eating protein after workouts. After weight-lifting and similar excercises there is a vital window (40 minutes) where you need to consume protein for muscle fuel otherwise the body will cannibalize itself. If you are trying to gain weight or you are very active you may want to consume more calories. I would generally recommend avoiding fat, but some fats, like the oils in peanuts, can be good for you if you have a balanced diet. Unless I am about to do long distance runs, like over 4 miles, I try to avoid carbs---otherwise they are great fuel. Fiber is great because it fills you up and is a good, er---stool hardener:redface: I recommend some kind of vitamin supplement in your diet if you workout regularly, without them I get pooped. And remember to hydrate hydrate hydrate. If you are on the move and you're thirsty, you're wrong---you should be sucking down water when you're not, store it like a camel. Your body needs it once you start sweating. Swimming is a great excercise. It requires a great deal of cardio endurance, you can tell by all the heavy breathing---its just hard to see all the sweat because you're covered in water (a good thing!) It is low impact and you work multiple muscle groups as well, but many people notice that many of the strokes tend to make the shoulders large. It's almost like a hallmark of a swimmer. Most swimmers also tend to have muscular thighs and narrow waists too. I'm still trying to figure out what kind of physique I want to sculpt my body into, I think a mix between Jason Statham and Daniel Craig
13 mins 10 seconds. Knocked 1 min 17 seconds off my time on just the second run. Quite a bit of that will be down to wearing a knee support on my bad knee, though.
here's my diet: meal 1: 1.5 cups old fashioned quaker oats with .5 cup of almond milk meal 2: three eggs scrambled with 3 table spoons of organic salsa meal 3: boiled chicken breast and a half cup of broccoli meal 4: cup of cherry tomatoes and 100 grams of raw baby carrots meal 5: boiled chicken breast x 2, seven or eight cooked asparagus spears... meal 6: apple or two or more broccoli while exercising h2o and perhaps a tea spoon of gatorade powder
p90 anyone? I just started it this weekend. I used to be a gymrat then lost my membership when I lost my job. Now I'm pathetically out of shape. Sore all over from just two workouts. pathetic lol
My sister's fiance and one of our other friends does p90x. My husband is planning on starting, too. Edit: Alright, Joel and I did P90X for the first time today, and I've got to say, I'm a wee bit disappointed. Everyone I know who does it or has done it in the past made it sound like the toughest workout they've ever done...I was tired, but it was nowhere near as bad as I've heard. The workout my coach created for our off-skates days is far harder. Not to bag on p90x, because it was a good workout. I'm just kind of surprised that some of my friends have found it as difficult as they did, especially my sister and brother, who have always, always been in better shape than me.
Wait until you get to plyometrics or some of the other p90x days. If you're really entirely keeping up, they are HARD, and if they aren't... well... go compete in the Olympics.
We did the plyo. And they were hard...just not as hard as I had been led to believe. I had to use a modification for like two of the moves, but that was it. I expected it to be a lot more challenging.
I have no muscular strength problems, my issues show their faces when cardio gets challenging. Let me jump-rope for two minutes and I'm already about to have a heart attack.
Well everyone is a big step over me. I'm so out of shape I can't even do the p90x. I'm on the original p90 that came out way before p90x. It's for the out of shape fatties like me to get in shape and not die when they try the new one lol
OMG... I went to a 4th of July party yesterday (I know it was the third) and ended up playing badmitton (sp?) for 4 hours straight! My team kicked ass, but my arm is going to fall off... for real! LOL. Way fun, though
Had an acident yesterday, I actually fell off a treadmill. Very embarassing, and now I have a booboo, which is sure to become a new scar >_> This is my second embarassing moment at the gym, the first was that time when I dropped the bench press bar on myself---both times I was wearing a motivated Marine Coprs t-shirt! I am poorly representing the Corps >< Anyway, I'm glad I took pictures to show progress because pics don't lie, even if you don't feel or see the progress, it happens, and takes time.
/\ Wow, can definitely see a difference, congrats! As for me - Dude, I was SO bad this weekend. Three 4th of July cookouts in a weekend = me falling off the diet train - HARD! Back on the horse today, though.
@ Jon - Ouch Sorry to hear that. Progress pics are definitely a good thing, though! And so you have a booboo... you also are making awesome progress and the booboo will heal and scars are sexy Looking great
Looking good, Jon!! Keep it up! Also, if it makes you feel any better, I've fallen off of treadmills before. More than once.
Thanks for the support ladies. Today I also reached a new pinnacle, 8 miles/1 hour 10 minutes. The pieces are all beginning to come together---although my feet ache terribly now:redface: Heather don't fall off any more treadmills please
