I'm rereading the Harry Potter series. This coincides with the release of the last movie, but I've actually been meaning to for ages. My parents have kept forgetting to bring me the books from home until now. The ads for the movie must have reminded them this time, though
Just finished Norwegian Wood. It was a very good book. Not reading Ulysses: the 1922 text by James Joyce.
Right now I'm reading Salem Falls, And so far (I'm not too far into it), I'm really enjoying this book
Ditto! I'm just on the Goblet of Fire at the moment. I am definitely going through a potter-mad faze again, which can be nothing but a good thing
Everfound. Last book in the Skinjacker trilogy. Awesome books. All this Harry Potter talk has reminded me how unbelievably not ready I am for the last movie. After this one, it'll all be over. :|
Previously read Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut, Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes, and The Holy Machine by Chris Beckett, all of which I absolutely LOVED and would highly reccomend. I have J. G. Ballard's Kingdom Come out on loan from the library, but unfortunately it isn't sucking me in. So instead, I'm now reading Retribution Falls by Chris Wooding. The first three chapters have been great fun, so I have a feeling I'm gonna enjoy this. I love good books, especially when you're trying out genres you've never really gotten into before.
Cat's Cradle was good, but I personally couldn't stand Flowers For Algernon. Perhaps it was because I had to read it way back in junior high, but I just frankly despise that book. What shall I read after I finish Inkdeath... probably nothing; I'll most likely get back to writing.
I nearly finished the book, The World We Live In, which is the 3rd book in the series by Susan Beth Pfeffer. And I'm not finishing it specifically due to my disrespect for the writing and the story.
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. There's some truly beautiful prose in here- reminds me why he's one of my favourite poets!!! 'We caught the tread of dancing feet, we loitered down the moonlit street, and stopped beneath the harlot's house...'
I am reading Firesoul: Book One of The Empire of Magic by Frank LaVoie. It was published by Mbedzi Publishing (a relatvely new small press).
Finished The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss, A Good Scent from a Strange Mountain: Stories by Robert Butler, Looking For Alaska by John Green. Now, it's a choice between re-reading all the Harry Potter books, Winter's Bone for the book club, or Point of Impact for my research. I think HP is going to win.
Atlas Shrugged, not by choice, but necessity for the chance to enter into a contest for a 10000 dollar scholarship. I despise this book, its characters, its writing, and Ayn Rand, so it's a bit of a slog. But I offset it with the incredible My War Gone By, I Miss It So by Anthony Loyd. Intense, personal, and beautifully written.
^ I actually like Atlas Shrugged. But I'm a nerd, so it's okay. I do, however, hate that Ayn Rand will pick these huge tangents and then go on......and on......and on....and on. Flowers for Algernon was good, but I read it in junior high as well.
Currently finishing off The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin. I'd probably have enjoyed it more if I'd not been reading it on trains and the like. After that's finished (later this afternoon), it's on to A Dance With Dragons.
I literally just finished Captain Corelli's Mandolin this morning (which was a wonderful book, I thoroughly recommend it) so I'll be starting Monica Ali's Brick Lane tonight, most likely.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. It's about a little girl in 1939-1943 Germany and the narrator is Death.
^ Loved The Book Thief. It took me two weeks to read Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks, when it would usually take me a day or two, so I've decided to reread some teen/YA books as I can't focus on reading adult books. I reread Guitar Girl by Sarra Manning the other day, and Just Listen by Sarah Dessen today. I think I'll reread Junk by Melvin Burgess next.
I loved The Dispossesed, it's one of my (many) favourite books! I'm so glad I got forced to read it for Uni, it hooked me on the first paragraph. @Euonia: Funnily enough, Birdsong is also one of my favourite books XD I did a dissertation on it in High School. ...Still reading (and analysing) Dorian Gray... ... but... I got A Dance with Dragons from Amazon yesterday... ITS BEAUTIFUL!!! (But I can't read it yet because I'm still on Storm of Swords part deux...
I have always wanted to steal that book just for the irony. (I know... I need a life...) Anyway, I'm just starting The Andromeda Strain, by Michael Crichton. It sounds promising.
