Damn, great job! I'm still working on my endurance, no way would I survive an 8-mile run right now. I'll try not to, but I'm pretty clumsy. I make no promises.
Hello everybody, I was just wondering if anybody had tried that UFC training game for Xbox Kinect yet? I hear it's meant to be a really intense workout even on the easy setting
I don't have Kinect, or I would try it. I love trying out different types of workout videos and stuff...I want to get a Wii Fit thing, too, but being honest, I would probably never use it consistently enough for it to be worth it.
I'm training for a race called the Mountain Man right now, it's a 50km (31 mile) run, portage and canoe trek, all done with 40lbs in a backpack. We've been training for a month, and race day is September 2nd. Don't get me wrong, I'm a smoker and I love my beer and whiskey and hamburgers, so I'm no golden example, but I bust my ass off while training under the direction of some exceptional athletes, guys who've done this race before, ran several marathons, the Death Race, etc. so I've been exposed to a lot of extremely valuable knowledge gained from real experience, and since there seems to be a lot of runners here, I could probably help anyone with questions or if I don't know the answer myself I could ask some of the guys at our next training session. Which won't be for a week since I'm on vacation.... Next monday's going to be a cold slap in the face after all the slacking and drinking I've been doing... And if anyone just wants some good running tips I've picked up, I could do that too, like how to reduce stiffness, ease joint pain, boost endurance faster... I just didn't want to blurt out unwanted advice and look like a hot head... So let me know.
I stayed fit this weekend helping my friend move (same city, different apartment). I spent two days packing stuff and lifting boxes and furniture and I now feel like I have steel implants in my arms and legs. Whoo.
I had to stay fit as an industrial firefighter. Here I am with my son last summer in Cozumel, not bad for 55.
/\ Looking good! Sorry I just had to do a double-take at your name - I'm a fan of the American Idol winner David Cook LOL. As for your question, no I have not tried that....
Hey everyone, sorry I have been absent so long... life and all that. Jon: Looking GREAT man! Way to go. I have a progress diary from a little bit back, and I intend to do another one now. If nothing else, it is a good way to help others keep motivated. Thatguy: I'd love any tips you have on getting into a running program. I keep trying and then losing interest. I just find it... well, boring. As for me, I'm back it pretty much square one. BF% feels like it's slowly crawling back up (although the calipers seem to disagree), my lifts are all WAY down from where they were in February, and I've gotten onto a really crappy sleep schedule (I blame my wife for that bit; she loves to go to bed around 4-5am and then sleep all day). So here I am, Line in the sand time. I started, last night, getting my sleep schedule back on track. 11:30 is bed time. 3 trips to the gym a week (started that 2 weeks ago but the 4th kinda upset that rhythm), If I can find the time, some running too. Yeehaw.
Haha oh man, it's boring as hell, I hate it. Before training for this race started I almost never ran. So as far as just getting motivated, sign up for a half or full marathon, with plenty of time (a year even, if you're starting from scratch) to train, fill up the iPod and find somewhere interesting to run. When I'm running on my own time and I don't feel like driving to the trails, I'll go on a "Lost run." I'll run from my house or vehicle untill I'm completely lost, then I'll try and find my way back without backtracking. Some of these runs have taken less than 5km, one ended up being over 18. Makes things interesting... Maybe bring a bit of cash just incase. Is the Running Room chain in the States? If so they offer group runs a few times a week, and do marathon training.
Are you a commando??? 30 plus miles with a pack is no joke man, I'm just trying to train myself to do a half marathon (I'm up to 8 miles) but I can't even imagine doing a marathon or more yet.
My brother did an Iron-Man about a year ago, 14 hours or so. Said he's never running again. Is it too late to jump in on this? My plan is to hit 170 (20 lbs loss) through diet and daily routine (which is a good workout in itself) then restart p90x (kicked my *** last time I tried, but made it through 3 weeks) already 10 pounds into starting p90 again.
Haha no, just stuborn. I'm going to take it pretty slow, I've already injured my knee in training, so my goal is just to finish the damn thing. Most guys don't run much faster than an airbourne shuffle. A half marathon is still a lot man, when there's some people out there who go months without breaking a sweat once. It's just so easy to slack these days.
I dropped in on our freshy group's practice tonight, and it's their last practice before they take their skills test. To pass the test, you have to be able to skate 25 laps in 5 minutes, so we did that at the beginning of practice and then again at the end...I skated 30 laps the second time, which is a personal best. For some girls that's super easy, but I've really been struggling with my endurance, so it was pretty awesome.
I've been really good about working out every day this past week. And I look more toned. I'm excited about it.
I just finished a short session at the gym. I trained my grip all morning and, when I got the the gym, I didn't have enough strength left (in my hands) to hold onto a bar! Just bench, squats, and abs I guess. I'm super psyched about a massive climb group coming together this Sunday. I hope to re-send a few of my old favorites and make some progress on a few new routes!
I just walk a lot, I take anywhere from 15 minute walks to 2 hour walks everyday. I don't have a car so it's either walk or take the bus.
Love the picture. And I love belaying. We had a whole month or two of it in gym this past year, learning to belay, rappel, climb, everything. I loved taking Adventure Ed gym. We also got to snoeshoe, scuba dive, canoe/kayak, cook things outside, camp, and so much more.
I feel like I went to the worst schools ever...we didn't go any cool stuff like other people do. But dude, I'm jealous when you post pictures from mountain climbing...so awesome.
I went to a lame school too. Just like you, Heather, I have had to become a super badass all on my own.
I used to be super badass, but I stopped...I haven't gone mountain climbing or repelling in years... I guess I still skate, though, so that almost makes up for it.
I've gone scuba diving! [/brag] My local gym has some free classes like cycling and stuff that I need to start going to...when I work out on my own I burn like 200 calories, but when I'm in a group it's more like 800...I push myself much more aggressively when others are around.
