Back at it again with my sci-fi. I just couldn't stay away from it for too long Currently, I'm back at the second scene, only revising it as I write to make it a bit better.
Endlessly plotting, and getting ready to write (although my outline's nowhere near finished. I deleted it all by accident and have to start over. )
Currently have no inspiration to write the story in my sig, which upsets me and scares me, because I don't want to quit writing it. In the meanwhile, I've been busy imagining a story in my head...and today, I might actually get it down on paper/word. ~_~
Don't worry - maybe you just need a few days away? I have a habit of taking weeks/months away from drafts sometimes and I always go back to them. More outlining today. I was talking to someone last night about my story and they helped me work out a major sub-plot. Today is about planning it in as much detail as possible.
Domhnall's just gone through an epic fight scene with his brother in a courtyard at Whitehall. Wine fountains, overturned tables, the works. Now I just need to re-read it and make sure it isn't a load of junk.
I get feedback from my friend on Friday - she's almost finished reading through my second draft. I'm nervous but excited to hear about what worked and areas i need to tweak. Can't wait!
Project numero uno - 123 k - This one is going amazingly well. And last night, I not only just fell deeper in love with my characters but I got an onslaught of future ideas to incorporate. Just worried now that it might be too long. Currently at the part where all hell finally starts to break loose. Drunk fights, the exchange of damning words, and a break in friendship. Project numero dos - 21 k Two of my main characters arrive at a supposed closed/dis-continued and now abandoned army base only to see that it's still fairly active.
I should perhaps mention I have a six (Word-) page design document, complete with map, beastary and a detailed explanation of the magic system. I'm thinking of including it as an appendix in the finished book.
AJSmith, same with my friend! I left the first 114 pages at her apartment and she's still reading through it on her own time - she says she's enjoying it a lot, and that she's written all over the pages she's read, which excites me because she's an amazing writer and friend who will help me improve a lot. I'm about to hit 48K and once I pass that mark I'll be happy. I'd love to break through 50K today, and once I pass 48, 50 will be a breeze.
Just about finished with my initial query draft... Then I have edit the sample to be submitted. It's all slow going though, have serious hand/arm irritation.
^ THAT'S AWESOME!! EEE! This morning I wrote out a rough over-view of my newest sci-fi. It's pretty good. I might even add more to it tonight Very excited...
It really makes the process a lot of fun for me. I love how she does a quick read through to give me general impressions and then a slower reading to give more scene by scene feedback. Love it!
In this edit, I have edited 33/54 chapters. I was moving a lot slower before, because I was accidentally rushing. Then I realised I was rushing, and had to correct my rushed mistakes, without moving forward. So now I'm doing a chapter a day now--no more. This means I'll be finished this edit within a month
Just sent my first ever query letter and sample out via email; here's hoping for beginner's luck....now to finish the last chapter!
Fingers crossed for you, Pallas! After a few changes to my outline, I have rendered about half of my completed scenes unusable in the story. I am okay with that, because the beginning is strengthened.
*claps* Nice. It's easy to settle for parts of the story that 'aren't quite right' just to save having to change scenes you've already written. I'm sure it'll improve the story. I'm still writing some scenes of the draft and finding that half of the plot needs reworked... and I need to figure out characters for this faction that I completely forgot about... and so much research to do....
Don't worry, Pea, I went through the exact same thing when I started editing. In fact, just last night I changed some of my plot, and I've been editing for months now. As you get into it, you will find it easier than you imagined. It will be tough for a bit, but once you pass a hump, you'll realise it is manageable, and you can do it.
I'm still in the first process of it all. The idea. I've been trying to think of a good idea for a fantasy novel (It'll be my first finished novel hopefully hence first fantasy novel) But I'll think of one soon. I just know I will.
