I LOVE FANTASY! I also like anything that is TRUE to read about history, such as wars I don't agree with them but they're very interesting to read about in my opinion.
Where is the Historical Fiction Genre? My favorite authors in this genre are G.A. Henty, R.M. Ballentyne, and Scott O'dell. Some of my favorite books are Ivanhoe, The Black Arrow, The Swiss Family Robison, Westward Ho!, Micheal Strogoff (sp?), Deerslayer, Robinhood, and Beyond the Western Seas.
There's just so much the fantasy genre can encompass... anything's possible, and that's why I love it.
Me too. I'm glad there are some ficiton/lit-fic fans around here. I always feel so outnumbered on internet writing sites. Soooo many fantasy/sci-fi fans, and I don't read that stuff at all, so sometimes it's a little hard to be motivated to contribute.
The are great stories across genres. I go by whether something is a good story or not. Limiting oneself to specific genres (or excluding them) only deprives the reader of some really good work.
To be honest, I think memoirs are the best. Real or embellished. Something about reading what one person feels, sees, senses, etc just does it for me. Its what video games & most books try to do to some extent. Besides memoirs, I like action thrillers, sci fi thrillers, and dramas.
I voted general fiction because I have such varied taste in general. I read anything from drama to romance to suspense to comedy... But if we were going by flavor of the year, I'd have to vote Fantasy.
I obviously can't vote for erotic literary fiction/erotica. I also like crime, SF and Fantasy. Non-fiction depending.
Crime/Thriller, humor, non fiction, fiction, anything with a good twist. I prefer to rotate the authors, rarely reading the same one twice in a row.
Question: What, in your opinion, is the difference between sci-fi and fantasy? As a lover of both genres (It was tough to pick a favorite!), I find that fantasy usually has otherworldly features, whether it be in setting or through different creatures. Sci-fi, on the other hand, focuses more on the science aspect (go figure), so if there are "mythical" creatures, there is usually a scientific explanation. Thoughts?
Hm, I would say fantasy only because it's the closest option on the choices to pick on the poll. I more accurately prefer a good old fashion adventure novel with a heavy element of fantasy thrown in for good measure. In a lot of ways something Lord of the Rings fits this for me. Yes - lots of magical beasts and technically classed as a fantasy novel but it's the war and the journey that I enjoy the most. Fantasy elements are fun but there must be loads of adventure.
That is somehow hard to choose. Normally I read romance and horror books. But I'll go for fantasy all the way since I enjoy reading mystical and adventure books like Harry Potter.
