I'm thinking of making a Fate Stay Night RPG - would anyone be interested? If you haven't heard of the anime, here's the gist of it: There's basically a 'War for the Holy Grail' every 60 years in one city. Seven people are chosen to participate. These people are generally mages who have spent their whole lives training for the opportunity, but sometimes randomers (sometimes not even magic users) who just have some reason to want the grail - whether they know it or not - are chosen as well. When you get chosen, a magic seal appears on your hand, and you have to summon a servant who you control with the seal. There are seven different types of servant you can summon: Saber, Lancer, Archer, Rider, Assassin, Caster, and Berserker. These servants are historical or mythological heroes who fit the different types. For example, in the anime, the Saber (knight) servant is King Arthur, Berserker is Hercules, etc. The war is basically a death match, and the last servant and summoner standing each get one wish from the grail. I'll think more about how to actually do it, because it would involve a lot of player versus player fighting. But yeah, would anyone be interested?
Forgotten - sounds interesting I've seen a little of the anime and would be up or it. It might be a little complex though.
I was thinking to maybe change it up so that the Holy Grail War is fought with two teams, and each team has seven summoners and seven servants. All of you guys can play together on a team, and the other team will be me (and one more person, if someones else wants to help me mod the game as well).
OK guys I need some input from the community here. I've noticed that the "Therapy" thread, that was approved before I joined, is continuing to get posts. It makes me think that there is interest out there for a low commitment RPG experience... I'm thinking of starting a "Golden Orb" type game for the RPG forum. If anyone remembers, the Golden Orb was a thread in which posters wrote themselves into a competition for an orb against all the other posters (mostly through flagrant god-moding), it was a lot of fun and required no real commitment since there was no real plot or back story. Normally I wouldn't approve a game like I am proposing, but I'm wondering if it would be a good place to draw in new players. So what do you think? A light hearted game with a simple goal, capture the Orb; standard RPG rules will apply, no God-moding, controlling other characters, etc; teamwork and competition are allowed; and I will GM loosely just to keep it moving and apply in game consequences for rule breaking characters. Players can come and go as they please and newcomers to the RPG forum are especially welcome. Any thoughts?
That sounds like a great idea, Hawken. It really seems like a good way to get new players into the feel of things around here, plus it provides something to keep people busy when there may be downtime in other games. Personally, I'd join it.
Oh man, it feels like it's been forever since I've posted here. Howdy, folks! Oh, thanks a lot! And congratulations on the modship!
Not as such. I have been doing some development on the Aeverlest world and have considered trying another game there, but I don't have anything really planned as of yet.
By the way, would it be possible to recall the Crystal Flames discussion thread from the archives as well? There are some things I'd like to look up in there.
Hey all, I went ahead and made a newcomers/'RPG lite' game called "The Orb of Pyritus". Its made a little different from a typical games; so I'd love for anyone, old and new, to try it out so that we can work out the kinks. The whole point is that you can be involved as much or little as you would like so jump in!
An "RPG" section in a forum? This is ridiculous. And very amazing! Well, I looked over the original thread in the RPG section, and if I'm ever going to join one, this seems best suited for me. I've done a few games of D&D at one point, being dragged along by some friends, but other than that, I really don't have much role playing experience. I read over the FAQ/Walkthrough section, and to my disappointment, the "Roleplayer's Walkthrough" was incomplete. I'm interested in joining, but I don't know how things will work. Is there anything I should keep in mind? Should I just watch an in-progress RPG, and join another later? Sorry for my absolute clueless-ness, and my questions. I don't really know where else to ask.
No worries Cheddar! These a great questions. This RPG experience is much different from the typical D&D dice game experience (I assume having never played one). Its easier than you think, lots of fun and good for your writing skills. Things to keep in mind are; to always be sure to follow the rules set up by the game master (usually in the first post of the thread), and be sure to be respectful of other players by not controlling their characters and by not over-powering yours. Game masters love creative and enthusiastic players who ask questions and write well. It is also very good in a game for the players to interact with each other just as much as with the GM. I'm sure the others here have some suggestions too. You'll figure it all out as you go along. Watching is a great way to learn, but jump into the fun as soon as you can! Looking forward to it! ~JG
Thanks for the information! You wouldn't mind if I joined your current RPG, would you? I might make a few mistakes, but I'll try my best to keep coherent.
I've got two games going at the moment, but I'm assuming your talking about the Orb of Pyritus, and you are welcome to join of course that's what its there for!!
Hey everyone! I currently need more players for the Alliance of the Sword RPG. I have enough to start, but I need another Aphen if anyone is willing, but more players are appreciated!
Hey guys, are there any DnD style RPG's here? (as in the character creation has attributes, you select feats for combat, and instead of saying "I did this" you say "I try to do this" and the storyteller rolls the dice and lets you know what happens) I've never played DnD but I really enjoyed doing the DnD style RPG's with a friend of mine. I was just wondering if anyone here did those too. And for the record, I did look at a few of the RPG's here and didn't find any. I won't lie though, I didn't search too hard for one. I thought it'd be easier to just... you know. Ask
Hi Transkinator, As I can currently see, there are only four or so RPG threads that are active right now (the others have kind of died out), so you've probably seen the gist. I know exactly what you mean - I used to play D&D a few years ago, and I really loved the character creation aspect. All the attributes, feats, ability scores/stats gave a very nice template to create a character from. But if you've played D&D-like games, you should know one very important tidbit. Large encounters involving large amounts of people (therefore large amounts of dice-rolling & power-use) took forever to finish. Hours sometimes. And that was with everyone sitting there, waiting their turn. Imagine trying to do that on a forum, where posts are made quite sparingly, and with around ten people at a time! Plus, there's also the factor of balance and customization, and it all gets very confusing and cluttered. Besides, this is a writing forum, and the RPGs reflect that. The game-play depends on the writing of each player. To be honest, I've never done an RPG like this until I stumbled upon this forum about a week ago. And I think you should try it out anyways. I've found it really takes the Role-Playing out of RPG. Who knows, you might enjoy it. Cheers.
Oh I've done both. And I know the combat takes forever, which is extremely annoying. I just like the added sense of unpredictability. You really need a dedicated group to make it work, but I just find them more fun than basic RPG's. Thanks for your help though.
Cheddar summed it up pretty well, we haven't done dice and stat style games here simply because they tend to be to complicated and cumbersome. But with a good group of players you will find a different but equal sense of unpredictability, I think. Different RPG forums have different styles and customs also, so feel free to hang around and see if any of our games interest you.
Hey everyone, This may seem like a silly question but is it possible for some one to create an RPG, give a list of characters and let the players make their own story? Because I've got this story idea and I can't write it but I would like to see it as a roleplay where people can make the story up as they go. I won't be using the story that they make but I would like to see where people take it. Thanks!
I'm not sure quite what you mean, but I can give a few pointers about making a successful RPG. First off giving players freedom to create unique characters seems to really draw people in. Secondly, a plot is a basic requirement for a RPG to work (and get approved). Lastly, you have to manage somehow to keep it moving in a given direction and to keep the players interested. If you want to write up your ideas and send them to me I'd be glad to take a look and see if I could approve them as a game.
So I have to be a character in the roleplay to keep it going? I can't let them pick a character, give them the basic story of it and let them take it where they want to?
You don't HAVE to be a character. But you do need to provide a plot and some degree of direction. This can be done by having a separate discussion thread and giving comments, suggestions and plot info there.
That I can do since I've got most of the plot already sorted and I know where I would like to go. Would it be alright if I PM my idea to you?
