Sorry for being a little slow these days. My campus internet has been malfunctioning, leaving me with pockets of connection at a time. Welcome to the game LtW! It's about time someone decided to be an elf. And it looks like the voting has begun. I'm assuming we PM our choices to you?
I wasn't thinking to do formal voting quite yet. I want to restrict the formal vote to the top three nominees. I'll pick the nominees based on our discussion here and on private discussions with them as to whether they can accept. Holding the Orb does come with some responsibility (most importantly of which you MUST plan on continued playing!)
Post them here unless you are uncomfortable. This is supposed to be a casual game so there shouldn't be a need for secrecy, and I think the players would benefit from the positive reinforcement; but all the same you can PM if you prefer.
I would nominate Magnafire Drake but i don't think that would benefit us in anyway, plus I'm not looking for the orb (yet). So my nomination is you Cheddar, Atlas is a fantastic character, you describe him well, and have had me drawn in each of your posts thus far. If anyone deserves it you, you are also good to collaborate with in that respect. I would also say writing and grammar was flowed well and as I'm not the best in that area I can't go into detail, but you certainly took care and thought into what you posted. The post featuring the teamwork of Magna, Riley and Atlas was executed as i expected, I rarely trust anyone to express my character and you pulled it off perfectly, plus you brought out the squad mentality despite the different backgrounds. So well done. If you get it... use it wisely.
Wow, thanks a bunch! I appreciate it! My top three nominees are listed below. Note that they are in no particular order. Faramar (Areadrill) Why? Writing/Grammar & Creativity. Your writing always has me reading your posts to the end, and are nearly flawless in regards to spelling and grammar. Not to mention that you're great at relaying the required information about your character and his situation, even with the vast differences of his race and culture. This is aided by the fact that Faramar's character and world is distinct and creative. Great work! Magnafire Drake (The Magnan) Why? Character Development & Creativity. I thought it would be tremendously hard for anyone to develop their characters effectively in this type of RPG. Usually, writers take entire stories to really flesh out their character development, yet you've managed to do it quite well even before the end of the first 'chapter', and with very creative and interesting methods. I'm eager to see where the conflicts between Magnafire and Erif go! Pyree Lasstor (GaleSkies) Why? Teamwork & Character Development. Granted I haven't collaborated with everyone yet, so this may seem incomplete. However, collaborating with you was notably quick and flawless. Dialogue and actions between our characters were quickly figured out, and any possible conflicts were fixed immediately. Additionally, it was nice seeing Pyree change her character from a confused, scared vacationer to a curious and determined adventurer. Keep at it! Honorable mentions: It was hard enough deciding my three nominees; everyone has done real well in this RPG. It was all very very close, I assure you, and I haven't just brushed aside the others. Igor, Thum, and Eslana are all very interesting characters, and I'm looking forwards to making contact with them. Thatratar must be the one character that is the most different from the rest, and an all powerful sentient sword definitely isn't anything to scoff at. Backbiter, and RusticOnion produce some of the more enjoyable writing in the RPG, and their posts always have me hooked from beginning to end. Good job everyone! EDIT: I had initially voted for Greywind (I wasn't supposed to).
You can't vote for Greywind, he's not eligible, I considered voting for him aswell. You need three nominations. PS. I haven't interacted with everyone yet so I might wait a bit.
CheddarCheese, has had some of my favorite posts to read. I have over 40 Pms of correspondence with him for the short amount of time we worked together. All of it was engaging, and we worked well together figuring out which direction to take our characters. He was very creative in taking the snake that we decided not to kill, and have it continuing his pursuit. Not to mention, for the whole beginning I was wondering who would pick up the Thatratar just sitting in the ground. Cheddar's use of conflict really made a great scene out of it that could have been very boring otherwise. Rapaz is doing a great job and his posts are very well written. Like, really well written. Without a doubt, his consistency of prose and character keep me reading aptly. I'm trying not to let his character's general aloof nature or powers get to me. For some reason, I don't like Igor at all. But I also understand that is most likely what Rapaz was going for. I'm dying to see more action from him and hope he gets a crucial part in the upcoming battle. After those nominations, I'm really struggling. Mostly because I don't no how to weigh certain achievements against one another. Mr Mr obviously jumped in very fluidly combining direction and motive with Rapaz. Areadrill has been very accommodating and creative in coming up with our posts. Naturemage's character Eslana is going through a very interesting developmental phase and decided on a unique motive for obtaining the orb. Okay, and thirdly (I've decided abruptly) I absolutely loved Rustic Onion's use of combat, even with a blade to his throat, he evaded enemies within the capabilities of his character, a dealt a descriptive blow in return, (bone shattering kick) but left plenty of room for his opponent to work with it in not saying the kick actually landed, or have his opponent sent flying. It was a very tactful spot to finish his post and I give him full props for it.
Lol, a unique motive for obtaining the orb. I like your thought, but realistically, she never wanted the power. I've never made mention of going for it.
Its not explicitly stated, but you gave your character a motive that works for her. She doesn't seem to be a power hungry warlord or the like, but you've made it past the aimless wanderings that my character is still having trouble with. Hell, what were Pyree's motivations for jumping on a blackbird... "Eff yeah! Why not jump on a giant bird? Not like things can get more ridiculous. I'ma go crazy" Lol
My other two nominations will be posted later, I kinda didn't read the post probably. Igor (Rapaz) - The writing is fantastic, and as a character I have the sense that Igor is very much a man who would betray or manipulate someone just get what he wants. The posts certainly give the sense that Igor is very unique in how he acts, and the way you track his thoughts is excellent. It also appears that Igor is a weapon of sort, someone is inside his mind.... kind like Blade Edge is in the Magnan's mind. And from the way it acts, you almost want to feel sorry for him, he's certainly going to be a interesting character to keep an eye on. Backbiter (Riley) - He is fun to collaborate with, there is a certain strain on the relationship between the Magnan and him, i liked the post where Riley was apologetic, can't describe how it made me felt, other than that, he has well written posts that flow, he's very creative, I never saw the manipulation of the snake coming, unexpected. Which is good. I have to say, all the others are also interesting to read, Rustic's character in particular is hilarious, in his authority, that makes Atlas, Riley and Magnafire look slightly pathetic in that sense.
Magnan, I've gotta say, I really appreciate your compliments! I'm going to get a new post up, hopefully today. After that I will throw up my votes.
I'm gonna say that it'll be around 12 that I'll probably post. That'll be the next time I have access to a computer here at school. I'll be off of here in a few minutes, so there's no time to finish it up right now.
Wow, thanks for the compliments guys! Really appreciate them. Sorry for being absent these past few days. My post is done, and now I'm hoping we can get to the part where we all fight! I'll wait some more before making my final nominations but so far I have to say I really like Rustic Onion's character, Pyree and Atlas. I especially like how GaleSkies does so much with so little. (As in having a character with no super awesome destructive powers but being able to keep it interesting. I always find myself concerned that her only "special" tool is limited, hoping she doesn't run out of space threads.)
My nominations are: Pyree/Galeskies - I really like the character, and the way Galeskies writes always takes me by surprise. Drake/The Magnan - The background story for this character is really amazing and the writing is awesome. Igor/Rapaz - Although the posts have been short and concise lately, I really like the way Rapaz describes combat situations and how he makes the best of his character's powers. I'd also like to point out that, despite Thatratar being absent, I liked the concept of the character being a sword. Finally, I'd like to incite Grudel, the Sorcerer and Leila to start writing, as I'm interested in how they write. (although Jesswrite posted twice)
Seriously, Jesswrite did a great job. I'm really bummed out she had time constraints. Our characters were so ready for a cat-fight. I loved the smooth undertone of wittiness in her style. It was present, but not overbearing. Come Back Jess!!!! P.S. I know Igor and Thum are in pursuit, but I'm working on a sword training post. Would you two like a tie-in to crash the party, or are you thinking of advancing to the orb ahead of us?
Question: So we're nearing the second stage of the game, where one of the characters will finally obtain the Orb. Does this mean the demise of Magnalian? If so, does this mean that the Orb-holder then becomes the 'Magnalian' of their own world?
Magnalian may or may not die in the battle. But the new Orb holder will be 1) transported back to his own world 2) gain superpowers in keeping with his nature and 3) be pursued by the remaining players. So a noble character may find himself protecting the orb from the untrustworthy forces that are after it, while an unscrupulous character may enjoy using it for his own pleasure while fighting of the others that are after it...
Finally, my post is up, I hope you all enjoy it. I'll try to, later today, write up my votes. Life is slightly chaotic at the moment, so it may not happen today. I'll try my best though.
Thanks for answering. But wouldn't this mean that noble characters would have to fend off other noble characters? Though, I'm guessing the use of the Orb would be different for each person as Mr Mr stated. That was a very nice post! What happened to Riley? I guess we'll figure that out soon.
