Thank you! :3 I am immensely proud of it. After cutting writing in other bits, it's ended up at 91, 400 words and yet underwent about 2k of word-swapping! Weird. Anyway, two friends of mine IRL are reading it right now, and I've asked some people on WF to take a look too. I'm preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. Even if it turns out not to have a future, it'll always be my baby.

But well done to you too, Pallas. You aren't far behind and completing an entire novel is a beautiful thing that most people don't get to accomplish. We'll always have that - probably a hundred times over, too, even if none of the books reach the rest of the world. That's what us writers do - we write.

Yes, we are pretty special, haha :D

Hey looking forward to your nyc stop on your book tour, Ash! I'll definitely be fan stalking you, haha.

Yeah, I've been working on this baby for years now, and I can't wait to finish this last scene. World, get ready for the next Odyssey. :)

Haha! :D That'd be so awesome. We might end up on the same writer's panel and/or talk show someday, huh? :p

Blagh. I keep opening my novel document to "admire" it and end up frowning over tiny bits and bobs that I could change or "make better". I have a feeling this'll never stop.

I'm new to this forum and I hope I don't get in trouble for posting this in here! I was looking at both this thread and the general life issues thread and I think this would be safe to post in either or.

This isn't really an issue, but something I'm interested in discussing. I'm coming to the end of my final year in high school and this is the time where I have to start applying to Universities. Now my marks are pretty good, average is low to mid 80's but I didn't take any math or sciences this year so that is a bit limiting. I've already applied for Film Production, Political Science and Philosophy, all things I'm interested in.

I was hoping people with some experience or in the same position would share some wisdom or just talk about what they took in University and how their last year of high school or their first year of University went!

It would be even better if anybody had actually studied those courses and could give some cool insights or advice!

All these taverns yet none seem to be serving booze. Is it ok to bring your own or are there to many under age young people around?

I don't think it'll hurt. Just don't give it to the underaged.

    ^ Haha, what?

Ashleigh, I'm sorry that he said that. There are lots of great female crime writers out there. Maybe for his birthday, you could get him a really exciting, fast-paced thriller book in the genre that he likes that's been written by a woman, so he can see that not all women writers are about romance and coming-of-age (or whatever else he thinks they're limited to).

Taverns not serving booze? That's really strange....

^ Corbyn means the llama in my avatar. We don't want a drunk llama.

And yeah, taverns serve booze. A tavern that doesn't serve booze is not a tavern at all!

True. One time, I was in a tavern that had a fricken American Buffalo head mounted on the wall. I literally did a double-take when I saw it. It was an actual, genuine American Buffalo head! Sheesh, that head was almost as big as my torso from snout to the horns!

To this day, I'm always wary of buffalo heads on walls whenever I enter bars/taverns in my place.

Yeah. I was 8 when I saw that thing, and my God, did I nearly wet myself when I saw it.

I'm used to seeing deer heads on the walls (there were deer heads at an old barber shop I used to go to, because one of the barbers was a hunter), but buffalo head?

I've gotten over it, but still... 8[

At age 8, I'd have been thinking about things like rotten brains and eyeballs still being in there....eeeeeeeeeewww.

My mom is visiting me for a week. It's pretty fun - we're pretty much best friends - but at the same time, my apartment is pretty tiny and I'm reminded of why I need to live by myself. We've been playing some fun detective computer games though.

Okay, I'm starting to get properly nervous now. Half an hour or so until I'll be on the radio, talking about bins.

    *gulp*

Cheers Mallory. It's looking good- the public are on my side, and even the news coverage of the issue has struggled to strike a neutral tone, so idiotic is the council's position.

Basically, they're limiting residents to using designated bin bags, which they'll get 80 free per year (not enough) and then have to buy more if they need it. The scheme is possibly illegal, and represents a stealth tax by freezing council tax but charging for previously included services.

And they've cocked up the distribution, leaving the 80 bag allocations on people's doorsteps, where unsurprisingly they've been getting nicked. I've been blogging about it rather extensively the last week or so, so there's much more detail there.

Ew, really? I'm pretty sure the UK government has far more important things to deal with then trying to police what kind of bin bags people use. How obnoxious.

It's political posturing. There are local elections in May, and the Tories are intent on juggling things around so they can freeze the council tax, as their headline policy. It's claimed that the new bin scheme will make savings for the council, but only by making people pay more. It's a massive con, and I'm trying to make sure they don't get away with it :)
