    What compells you to write?

    Dreams. Experiences.

    Why do you write?

I write for the same reasons many of you do. I write to get the ideas out of my head and expand on them creating new worlds and new people. I write the kind of books that I and people like me would like to read that aren't out there already. I put myself into my characters and hold nothing back.

What makes you write what you write?

Like I said, I write the type of books I like to read. I really enjoy Cassandra Claire's Mortal Instruments books. The way she writes and her character development. I write similar to her.

    What Do You Write?

I write fantasy/fiction. Almost realistic fantasy fiction. I try to bring the unimaginable into our world. I almost always create characters that I would want to be or hang out with. I'm a girl so there's always going to be romance, but I'm the type of girl that loves writing about brokenness and heroes coming out of their darkness and defeating their demons.

I write because I discovered I have a talent for it, and it's something I feel really good about.

And, if I'm going to be completely honest, I write to influence people. This world is full of "wrist-slitter" fiction, and I want to fight back.

Have we a cheery optimist among us? What sort of thing do you write?

Simple: it's what I love to do.

For as long as I can remember writing has been my 'thing'. At school I used to write short stories and later on I just made the stories longer, more complex and developed. I like to look back, to compare my style of writing back then and how I do it now, to see that I have grown as well. There's always a challenge in writing, making up characters and plots and it will never end. (there are never enough books, right?!)

I also write because my imagination knows no boundaries and won't let me go to sleep unless I acknowledge my thoughts and write them down. Pretty exhausting, really. ;)

This is one long thread. Let's see.
I guess a psychiatrist or a romantic would define this as a creative urge. My main outlet is clothing design. But writing is handier and about as fun.
I write because I like to write. It's something that I find fun and interesting, to come up with a story and tell it. I'm afraid I have no dreams of professional authorship. I only write.
I write what I like to read. I could write what I don't like to read. But I would just as happily be a chef in a restaurant and serve up what people want, individually, whether it be eggplant parmesan or squash or garlic bread or Brussels sprouts.
I've been writing for a while, on and off, through childhood; mostly strange short stories; eventually I came in contact with a group of kids who were all writing enthusiasts and I picked it up and really enjoyed it.
I write fantasy and dislike it. Which is to say, I love fantasy written by good authors, and I'm not really one myself, and I keep trying to write something meaningful and failing miserably. Adventure is all very well, but in a book I look for something more than action.

Cheery optimist? Kind of a strong observation there. It's just that I've noticed that writer people are generally the ones that control the world. Like for example, a person can do a good thing in a foreign country, but the way the news reports it can twist this good thing into something bad. Therefore, the true power belongs to the news, not so much to the person taking the action. It's like the word "authority". There's a reason the word "author" is inside of it.

So yeah. It's not that I deny bad things exist, it's just that when we dwell on bad things, we make them worse. Like when a person has depression, the worst thing they can do is sit at home and be alone. That, and I enjoy simple things, like the green of trees, cracked sidewalks, and fresh mop heads. And shiny things. I absolutely love shiny things. :D

I write mostly because of the frustration of not being able to answer certain questions of the real life, no matter how minor they are!

I write because I love the whole process of writing. I like to see my ideas evolve from the horror that is the first draft to something that resembles a readable story. I mainly write short stories and when I finish and feel like I've really nailed the ending I get such a rush I'm usually on a high for a couple of hours. Of course after that I come down and usually start thinking it's a load of crap :)

To someday marry Adele like everyone else I assume.

Nah, I write 'cause the most influential elements of my childhhood were found in the escapism of literature. I also really like telling stories and love seeing my 'voice' take on a life of my own. What started as a way for me to learn about the world and discover the wonder of it, ended up allowing me to look into myself with the same wonder. Nothing more soul affirming than rereading what you wrote and truly surprising yourself.

I write because I have too many stories to tell. Words are just my preferred medium.

I write for many reasons. I write for a hobby and because I enjoy it. Whenever I have a good or bad day, or need to clear my head I write. I write primarily the mystery genre because I grew up in a household full of police officers so it is second nature to me to write these stories. Every since I wrote my first one I have been writing them ever since. I am now working on my 17th novel, so I think it has stuck since.

Writing is like creative bloodletting, art the means to an end; the end- an excised body, mind, and soul; purging myself of internal notions, ideas, and feelings.

What compels you to write? I get nightmares if I don't :D! I don't know why but I just feel a hundred times better if I get to write daily.
Why do you write? Cause I want to create. I'd like to become a film director one day and I know that those ridiculously costly special effects are still so far away... But when I've got some paper and a pen, I can use all my imagination and whatever tricks I like - and it doesn't cost a penny! And besides, I always have the best actors in the world when I write... B) The other reason why I write is that I love my characters. They never judge me cause they don't even know me but I still get close to them without them noticing... :D!
What Do You Write? Real big tales with a lot of action and emotional dimensions. I absolutely adore complex plots... :)! I wan't to create strong story lines - not those "I wrote 600 pages just to describe one second" -type of stories. They can be good, too, but not my cup of tea.
What makes you write what you write? I've always been living in a dream world of my own. However, I'm still really social and want to tell people stories. I want to share my own universe with them. Making people think, laugh, enjoy, relax and get excited makes me happy.
What Made you decide you liked to write? I never decided to spark interest in writing. I love writing and especially my mother tongue and languages in general... but... If by some supernatural trick all pens and papers would disappear and I wouldn't be able to write or read anymore, I wouldn't be like "God, I can't live anymore". I'd just find other ways to tell tales. How very simple...?

    What compells you to write?
I have a lot of ideas that I never see represented on tv or film.

    Why do you write?
It's rewarding to create something that you put everything into. Plus I have to get these voices out of my head some way.....might as well write.

What makes you write what you write?
I love television and film. It's a great visual medium. There are so many ways you can be creative.

What Made you decide you liked to write?
It's a hard thing to do, but it's so rewarding when you feel like you have a great idea that everyone must know about it. I like things that challenge me and writing is on top of the list.

    What Do You Write?
Screenplays, television scripts, blogs and poetry.

    What compells you to write?

    I enjoy telling stories!

    Why do you write?

I write because I have stories to tell, which to my knowledge have not been told before.

What makes you write what you write?

I want to tell my story? :p

What Made you decide you liked to write?

I don't think people decide what they like, we decide what we subject ourselves too, the rest is some sort of chemical reaction.

    What Do You Write?

Short stories, novels, and I will be starting a screenplay soon (hopefully!).

    What compells you to write?
I dont know... I guess its just a feeling that wells up inside me and if I don't share this story or idea I will burst... When I think of a story, the story isn;t tht first thing that comes to mind for me. It's the character. Sometimes a voice, a face, an image or a thought pops in my head and I think, "Who, what, why, when, how...?"
I just put together pieces and ask them their story... does anyone else get that?

    Why do you write?
To express those welling up feelings or I will burst, and because I want to share someone's unheard story.

What makes you write what you write?
Wow, this are in depth questions, very nicely done. To tell you the truth, I really don't know. I'm still discovering myself as a writer. I write sci-fi/fantasy/anything fiction a lot because I grew up with my some what nerdy mother and father and my siblings and I have turned out the same. I just love what you can do with the genres! They are so limitless. You can absolutely NUTS! I guess uhhh maybe the reason I write is because I have family of very creative artsy people and I want to stand out with my writing. Even my friends are writers and artists so in a way Im really lucky to have people more like me but it also sucks cos then you can't stand out :p

What Made you decide you liked to write?
Well I don't actually remember but I a few things that helped me discover it.
We had this super old dodgy computer and when I was 10 my mum and dad put it in my room for a while and I use to make little silly stories and comics using the PowerPoint and the animation actions. My siblings LOVED them. They were mainly inspired by the Classic Looney Toon Cartoons because we watched them allllll the time. I also wrote a story about a kid telling someone how special is stuffed lion was because it was once worshiped by Ancient Egyptians and I wrote another one about this old guy whoooo uh didn't want his house destroyed and all these mysterious disappearances were happening to people in business and council trying to get the house (Wrote this well before UP).
Most of my encouragement actually comes from primary school when we had to writing tasks because I realised how much a REALLY LOVED writing them C:
ALSO when I was really really young I drew pictures and made up background stories... I guess I like talking. Dad says I came out talking LOL
And when my uncle and parents read my stuff they said stuff like "This is going to become a movie one day"...
Woah babbled on a bit there.

    What Do You Write?
Uh. Whatever comes out. Mainly short stories. I once had like a 10'000 word story but I gave up on it because I write it in grade 6 and its pretty bad

BTW, I don't read over my stuff before I post majority of the time so sorry for any mistakes

    Why do you write?

I'm a creative guy. Writing to tell a story is an art. I feel I'm being fully untilzed when I write. It's fullfilling.

    I write to entertain others.

What makes you write what you write?

I'm a science geek. So, most of what I write centres around sci-fi. That's for novels. For flash, I do delve into various genres or literary.

What Made you decide you liked to write?

Writing is an art. If I don't write, I'll draw/paint. If I do neither of those, I'll be plonking on the piano or strumming the guitar. I have to be doing something creative.

    What Do You Write?

Sci-fi Novels. And no, they don't always include aliens. I enjoy flash-fiction too -- which may cover various genres.

    What compells you to write?
I don't think anything compels me to write. I just do. I enjoy it so I continue to do so.
    Why do you write?
Because otherwise I would never stop daydreaming. I get a brief idea, or see something I question or have a weird dream and I like to delve into it, the reasons why, the what if's.
What makes you write what you write?
I honestly have no idea other than an interest into digging into things and figuring out the whys, hows and what ifs.
What Made you decide you liked to write?
What made me realize that writing was an option though? I think it was the second or third grade, Mrs. Fudge had us write a creative story and I was hooked, haven't stopped since. (Mind you, at the time half the stuff was probably fanfiction even though I had no idea that existed at the time.)
    What Do You Write?
I write novels mostly, poetry if I'm feeling like a masochist. The genre would move between urban fantasy and sci-fi... it's hard to figure out really. Maybe I'm wrong on that, it's the closest I can assume. I love revolutions, social structures, inequalities, dystopias.

When I'm doing almost anything other than writing, I feel like I should be doing something else.

Writing is my way of ignoring the world and saying: "Fine! I'll just go and make my own world."

    And...it's fun : )

Because yes. It's something I don't need to have a reason to do -- I do it because it's fun, takes me to another places, and since I am not very creative, it's a good way to exercise that.

Writing means creating your own world in a sense. Or distorting the world based on your subjective perception of it. Basically, I do it for the expression; a lot of me goes into the book I am writing now. I divide myself and experience among characters, plot, subplots and background etc.

I see writing as an kind of art which explores many elements of expressing oneself, and one's imagination. I am very imaginative and need to express it in a way that can communicate to others; and also the desire to get varied feedbacks as it would tell me a lot about those who read my book, my book and elements of myself.

Where fantasy of the mind and one's subjective persepctive of life can be channelled and expressed and combine without conflict. Writing a book is fun if you are not preocuppied with primarily publishing it, but i bet it is a thrill when many read it and react differently yet hopefully positive in general.

I also learn a lot more about how we express ourselves and how we can do so from reading other books and that compells me to want to do the same. How else can we express our fantasies and realism? Certainly not through mere conversation.

I am writing a psychological fiction, with a bit of magical realism. I do focus quite a bit on my prose, and I have learned that I do have an odd prose, which I like but I need to be careful with. I use quite a bit of my psychology knowledge in my novel, as my book is about a psychaitrist's long distance relation and soon to be close relation with a young patient of hers.

I would like it to be dark, twisted, realish with a bit of black humour and a reflection of the times we live in regarding our knowledge of one another and life and psychology.

I feel that at the moment it is a bit of a character study as it is focusing on the psychaitrist and her issues at the moment.
