Not sure if it's a genre, but classics are all I really read. I can enjoy science fiction (Dune), mystery (Sherlock Holmes), romance/war (Farewell to Arms) etc. Not really into biographies, and I've never read a horror novel.
I would say a mixture of Horror and Fantasy, with a bit of Sci-Fi too, haha. I'll read mostly anything, but those are my top three favourite genres.
I voted Sci-fi, but the truth is, ALL OF THEM. If it's a book, basically I'll read it. As long as the characters are well developed, and it has heart, makes me feel something. While i'm reading, if its a good book, that's my favorite book until i'm done with it. I can't say i have a favorite genre to read. Sci-fi is my favorite genre to think about tho, and to write myself.
I tend to lean toward fantasy but I enjoy sci-fi and horror as well. I read whatever catches my interest. If the idea of the story grabs me and I enjoy the author's style, I'll read it.
Generally, speculative fiction. However, I'm up also up for contemporary fiction exploring social issues, I'm a big fan of Haruki Murakami and Ben Okri because they go into both genres.
Actually it's a bit shocking to myself, but this was a very hard question. On the fly, I'd answer fantasy I think, but this actually got me pondering a bit. The last few literary pieces I've gobbled up have actually been science fiction rather than fantasy and in general I've been more intrigued by those. I've always liked the idea of creating an entire new, functioning and logical world, so fantasy hooked me when I was very young. Being a bit older I feel as fantasy doesn't really hold up as it used to; I often find myself irritated by magic - one predominant aspect of fantasy books. While it is mysterious and can certainly add to the atmosphere, it is often used as a make-shift explanation to just about anything, whereas science fiction often go to great lengths to explain and theorize its ideas. I'm pretty convinced that there is fantasy that actually dissects the concept magic and tries to treats it analytically, but so far I've not read anything like that. That being said, sci-fi is probably my favourite, at least for the moment, but great writing and a gripping story works in almost any format!
I like historical fiction, because it's interesting when I've finished the story and I read the back few pages, which say what's true and what's not,
I like Dystopian fiction (or some call it Post-Apocalyptic -- a story in a world after an apocalyptic event). Which category does it falls? Well, there are no powers. Their technology are highly improved. They also have romance. There are battles. Is it General Fiction?
I love fantasy. The Lord of the Rings is my favorite book, I just love how the book can take you out of the world and place you in another world, which has a rich lore and a history. It just seems mind boggling to me. Middle-Earth or Westeros or whatever, they are genuinely believable worlds with a diverse history and culture. Obviously Sci-Fi can be like this, but I'm more a mystical/medieval guy than futuristic.
Fantasy. My hubby teases me about elves and mages (he prefers horror and murder mystery) but l like escaping to fantasy worlds.
Crime and thriller dominates my book collection. Here lately, though, I've been reading a lot of fantasy.
I’ve probably answered this already and the answer would probably have been literary fiction or creative nonfiction, but I realize now that what I’d actually take with me to the laundromat/doctor’s office/anywhere to pass time wouldn’t be Joan Didion but Robert A. Heinlein. No matter how hard I try, I still can’t cut myself off from my love of science fiction.
Tough choice, as all are in my favourites, but I had to say Other, as I have quite a love for historical fiction/historical romance novels. Close second would probably be horror, as Stephen King is my inspirational and the majority of his works fall in that genre.
I think I've answered this before, but I have a newfound love for teen chick lit. Meg Cabot, nuff said.
I've also answered this before, but I didn't have the proper term before. My favorite Genre to read is Space Opera! Grand fantastic sci-fi colored with the impossible of fantasy!
