Hello everyone! My name is Macklin and I'm a sophomore in high school. I've had a long interest in writing since I was a kid and would write my own small stories which I would maybe write a chapter or two and give up on moving to the next idea. A lot of time has passed and writing is sort of a passive interest for me, I've never gotten far past the idea stage in the writing I do for myself. I've learned a lot from advice and some videos and even gained some experience as I've gotten older. I'm still faced with some problems that have kept me from writing. I've watched a lot of anime, read some books and it always comes down to the same things that make me enjoy the storytelling. The plot is what fascinates me and draws me into the story and the characters are what get me attached to it. World building is another important thing to me. I like writing in a sensual way, I enjoy putting myself in the shoes of the MC or just in the setting and imagining a wonderful environment. Taste, touch, sound, and sight-- All things that I love to trigger, putting you somewhere that you could never be but can experience through words. These are the things that have drawn me into writing, and in some ways to go somewhere more pleasant than the real world. Anyways before I go off on any longer I'll get to some questions I have for everybody. As you might be able to tell, I enjoy the fantasy genre of books and couldn't see myself writing much of anything else. There are unimaginable amounts of the "classic" -- you know... elves, wizards, dragons, a hero to save the realm? Something like that, you get my gist. -- fantasy books in the world and I don't feel like writing another. What would you do to make your story special and unique? What is your approach to world-building in creating an interesting and unique setting? How do you weave your plot into the web of history you've created for it to take place? Anyways, thank you for reading my post and I hope you've learned a thing or two about me. -Macklin
Hey there! Be welcome to the forum. By the nice description you made, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun around. I hope to see your work soon, and feel free to participate in any thread you like, the better if you help other writers onto their work by criticizing it. I think that originality of concept is overrated to make a story specially interesting and unique; its like who wants to read about a four-winged dragon instead of a classical two-winged one? The point is to make your MC's strife to matter. That his quest, sacrifice, or choice does matter, and was hard to get it. You don't need to reinvent love to write about love. The same about hate, strife, poverty, nobility... they are common and well known for every human been. You just need to remind them that they still matter, in your own style. Don't reinvent the wheel, just make it better. Or invent a functional hoverboard, if you are at it. Be well, and hope to check your work soon.
