    Is the POV confusing?

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by Talmay, Jan 10, 2013.

    Need a second opinion here.

The MC of my novel is a bard verbally telling a story. While technically it's written in first person, the occasional third person leaks in to tell something unrelated from the MC, even though it's something he's fully aware that happened. The prologue, for instance, is the story of his birth via what his sister told him. There's minimal interaction from him. But everything is written in his voice and with his flair regardless.

Is this way too confusing? I personally like it. I'm just not sure if it's only because of my intimacy with the project.

Generally, if it is clear that the point of view is changing (including a chapter break or line break) and why then it shouldn't be confusing.

personally I like stories where it is challenging to keep track of pov. I know a lot of people do not like it.
