I'm writing a scene with animals, where a dog is about to make a cat sign an agreement not to chase, harass or infact harm him. Dog has drawn up the agreement, am struggling to think what to call such an agreement? Along the same lines, they also make up a new set of rules to abide by... any ideas what to call THAT too ? Maybe its late my brain isnt working but if anyone has Ideas for what to call these two documents would be most appreciated.
Contract Treaty Agreement Compact Pledge Concordat/Concord Covenant Obligation Accord Pact Charter Policy
Thanks I'm also looking for how to describe it.... immunity from harm, or amnesty , or a different word?
Are there any crow courts or jackdaw judges in this storyworld? The dog could apply for a non-molestation order and the cat could consent to it. In Britain there is a phrase: Good Behaviour Agreement which isn't for this circumstance but it might sound good.
Why goodseed, I know just what you're after: It's the Non-Scratch Contract that instructs no hissy kitty fitties, mandates one to be a fine feline and respect (especially) article K9 < Here a moggy should often paws while reading in order to absorb the detailed no claws clauses.
So... the talking animals have laws and courts? Are they kangaroo courts? Sorry, hard to resist. But actually I was serious up until the kangaroo thing. Do the talking animals literally have their own courts and laws they all abide by? What does one do if another refuses or fails to abide by a document they've signed? I'm trying to wrap my head around what kind of world you're creating for them. It seems to me it might make more sense if they just talk and agree to get along, a sort of gentleman's agreement. It's hard for me to understand how they could have courts and use technical legal terms unless it's all just a big joke or their civilization is far more advanced than seems likely. I'm also struggling to understand how creatures with paws can write, unless it's a purely imaginative concept where they're sort of half-human, with hands. And in that case I don't see how any of them would be pets.
Kangaroo courts....haha. I am still in the process of figuring out how these 3 will break out so still in the plotting outlining phase. One of my characters is just not behaving herself. And another is well off on a different agenda and not sticking to plan. The process is so funny though, several characters waiting in the wings, and every few days one of them will spring forward with his/her own story arc and sets things in motion. But one of them is really trying my patience lol. I've told him in no uncertain terms that if he's not willing to show himself, I'm cutting him out. Trouble is, he knows I'm bluffing ;-) PS: I am mostly sane (I think)
All artists are crazy in one way or another. My mantra here is, "I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid."
No one who knows me would call me an artist in the least sense of the word. My thoughts are nerdy and boring, and I have to remind myself to be "more fun" when I write.
Is this pact a unilateral "agreement"? You wrote that the dog is going to "make" the cat sign it. How does that work? My experience, having grown up in a family that always had both dogs and cats, is that it was generally the dogs who initiated any contratemps with the cats, not the other way around. Does the cat get anything out of this? Does the dog also agree not to chase, harass or harm the cat? If so, I think it would be called a mutual non-aggression treaty (or pact).
