    Memoirs and Such

Discussion in 'Traditional Publishing' started by charliepratt, Sep 23, 2008.

    Greetings!

I am planning on completing and submitting a memoir in early 2009. Does anyone have any advice on agents or publishers that are geared towards this style of manuscript?

    Thanks,
    Charlie

just go to www.duotrope.com and/or to your nearest large bookstore/library to see who publishes what you want to write...

as for agents, i can send you a slew of listings, but agents won't be much inclined to take on a memoir from an unknown new writer, as such are generally one-book-wonders and won't make them any money even if they can place the book with a publisher, which is next to impossible...

so you''ll have a much better chance by approaching publishers directly... the ones who are open to unagented writers, that is...

the first thing you need to consider is why would total strangers want to read about you?... are you famous?... have you anything to tell them they haven't heard before?... will they plunk down $10 [pb] to $30 [hc] of their hard-earned cash to do so?

    love and hugs, maia
