    Novel Book 2

Discussion in 'Genre Discussions' started by Philliggi, Sep 10, 2019.

So I spent the last 3 years writing my first book, which has gone down quite well, receiving glowing reviews on amazon, and sold more than I expected.
The problem is, people keep asking me when book 2 is out. I don't have a book 2, wouldn't even know where to start writing it, not even sure I want to start it, and don't actually think I even have it in me.

The first was so draining, I think this actually might be it, but if it continues to do well I don't think I'll be able to put it off any longer.

    So where do I start?

Were you supposed to have a sequel? Or are people asking for a sequel?

There is definately scope for a sequel, but at the same time it could be taken as a stand-alone.
the book is quite unique in its story.
My fear is if I write the sequel it could become cliche.
People are asking for a second book, but not necessarily a sequel

Let us know if you figure this out! It's a toughie. I don't know if I've got a second book in me either. I have a plot, characters (a few from the first book) but I seem unwilling to sit down and write it. I keep finding all sorts of reasons not to. It just feels like the impulse isn't there any more. I'd be doing it because I 'should,' not because I want to.

so far i have eight books out and a number of others in process...but that said my take is only do it if you want to (unless this is a full time put food on the table job - in which case do it because you have to)

With my first book a number of people wanted a sequel... I instead wrote seven other books before returning to the original one to write sequel (actually a prequel) when I was ready
