Is it possible to get an agent from another country?

Discussion in 'Agent Discussion' started by Ale, Aug 30, 2017.

Hi guys, the reason I'm asking this is because I'm writing my latest WIP in English, yet I live in Spain. I think my writing skills are superior in English than in Spanish, and I thought I would have a wider market if I got published in an anglophone country. I didn't consider, however, the possibility that an agent could have 0 interest in trying to publish works of writers outside their country. Do you have any idea how this works?

It might be premature to already be thinking about publishing issues, but I thought it was better to find out about this before my work was too advanced, as in the worst scenario I could rewrite in Spanish.

It's no problem at all. I'm in the UK and my agent is in the US. Another member here is from Canada and has a US agent. Even if you're in the same country, it's pretty rare to deal with your agent face-to-face: everything is done by email, important things by phone.
