We are still a while away from a full blown mobile app, and with more and more people using forums on mobile - myself included - it's time we make some serious changes to our mobile interface. This thread will include our long term wish list, but more importantly, I would like to hear your requests and to receive feedback on some mobile interface changes I'm implementing. Do you use mobile? What bothers you? How is the navigation? What information can I hide? What would make a better mobile experience? I'll update this original post as needed. Baseline mobile display: Implemented Changes General Added Desktop/Full Screen Version in Footer Forum Index Removed "latest" timestamp, thread stats, posts stats Increased (slightly) forum height/padding Reduced logo/header size in vertical version
Currently focusing on the forum homepage. On the mobile vertical view I've removed the "latest" time and the total threads and total posts for forums on the homepage. New: Old: The idea is to remove less useful content and include more important content.
Actually this is one of the few websites where I don't go mobile. Too much typing involved for those itty-bitty keys. When I do open WF on my phone I usually stick to reading only.
@Homer Potvin I'd like to improve your experience as a mobile reader too. I totally get it, it took me a long time to become comfortable typing or posting on mobile. That's not true for everyone though. I want to impliment mobile improvements that don't just benefit posting, but also viewing/reading. I believe most users who visit the forum on mobile mostly read only, and I want to improve that experience. I'm open to suggestions in that regard. As of the last time I checked, 25% of our web visitors visit the forum on mobile, and 6% do so on a tablet. This is a significant number, but we're fortunate that we don't have 50-60% mobile users as some forums do. Industry and technological trends suggest mobile use will continue to increase.
