    Auto Racing Thread

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Cornys, Feb 2, 2011.

I may be the only one here, but I'm going to post the thread anyways, and assume that most sports fans don't include Auto Racing as a sport.

The 24 hours of Daytona race was quite exciting, and I'm looking forward to running my Fantasy NASCAR League :) Maybe Jimmy Johnson won't win the championship this year

NASCAR comes to Daytona on Feb. 12th :)

I once saw a road rally and 4x4 mud rally; messy ordeal, but fun to watch.

I once saw a 4x4 female tag jello match. Awesome to watch.

    Edit - Wrong thread.

Automobile racing IS indeed a sport, and a great one at that.

Nascar on the other hand, is the most terrible form of auto racing that I am currently aware of.

Le mans, F1, WRC = win

Of course Nascar is just about the only racing you can actually see here in the US without going online or on Cable.

To be honest, as much as i love F1, it's become a huge bore over the years. They try and make it better, yet it just gets more meh. I still enjoy it, how could i not.

Auto racing in general seems like a mixed bag. On the one hand they try to make it an even field by imposing all these restrictions on the cars. On the other hand, in doing this it seems like they are getting away from the pure pursuit of automotive perfection.

F1 cars could cut much better lap times. WRC cars could be a lot faster. Granted, it probably keeps the drivers safer, but since when have racing drivers taken safety over speed?

    Solution? Watch roller derby.

It's got wheels...it's got...a circular track that people skate around over and over...

If you ever want to watch a cool race, V8's (no overkill with V10/12's), one moutain, 161 laps, rain, hail and shine at the same time....come to Australia. We have one awesome race.

Plus i need another person to come with me. Alcohol limitations blow.

I am a big fan of touring car races for sure. Only a 14+ hour flight over to Australia and I'm right there with ya... =(

Try to get touring car races over here in the US and people start shouting "Why are dem thur curs turnin right?"

It's a sad state of affairs.

    I love racing!

Here I am at a local SCCA SOLO II event:

My brother's car is the dark red one in front of the gray cone, at the bottom left of the picture.

Just be careful, or you get to use this cool signature:

The wreck didn't involve racing (I was hit by a truck and spun into a wall :() but it makes a cool siggy. I fixed it and had it repainted into the yellow car above.

lol nice, way to make a bad thing into a good thing :D

NASCAR is the main thing that I enjoy, but I like just about every form of the sport.

What's wrong with NASCAR other than the oval? (which is basically what every track is only with right turns) I will agree that the wide-open restrictor plate races are more of a carnival than a race, but the other 32 races (30 more oval and 2 road course) usually feature a very nice mix of competition and excitement.

Also, if you're American and don't like NASCAR or Indy Car racing you could go and watch the Rolex Sports Car Series :)
