    Glad to be here!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by daryldarko, Mar 8, 2008.

Hi, my name is Daryl and I'm a really young spirit in an old dudes body... I've had the feeling of wanting to be a writer since I was pretty young. As life encountered me, I learned that I could communicate more clearly through written words than I could through spoken words; thus explains my history of broken relationships, failed friendships, and frozen opportunities to speak up first and introduce myself. Writing is hard though and I have not made a life or career out of it, yet.

Recently I have found a bit of a niche for one aspect of my writing and that is doing music reviews for an online music zine. I've written concert and album reviews and other types of features. My educational background is in anthropology, although I consider myself a life long student of "all things"...

The reason I have joined the Writing Forums is to get motivation and feedback about the novel that I am working on. I need a lot of help.

Hello Daryl, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well!

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

welcome, young'un!... it's nice to have some 'mature' company, though i've a full score of years onya, so you're only as 'old' as the eldest of my seven... i'm sure you'll get the help you seek here, as the natives are a helpful, friendly lot and no one's been tossed in the cookpot for quite a while...

    love and hugs, maia

Thanks Cogito, Shinn and Mammamaia for your welcomes. Like I said, I'm glad I found this place and I'm glad to be here. Let's hope I can find my voice and speak up more than my shy self normally allows me to. Your encouragement is infectious and I thank you again.

    Daryl
