English was always my favorite class from grade school through college. It was so intellectually liberating to convey my thoughts in the written word. The deeper I dug into each subject, the more I realized that I was really learning about myself. Documenting my thoughts with only a pen and notebook is a profoundly enriching and meditative process. The more notebooks I fill, the more I realize that the most remarkable aspect of life may not be the number of accomplishments but the journey itself – a lifetime of catharsis aimed at discovering answers to our deepest thoughts. I'm currently working on a memoir. Unlike most past projects, I find it mentally draining to a degree I have not previously experienced. I am suddenly finding myself confronted with my greatest fears and regrets, failures, opportunities not seized, and paths not taken. I hope to gain additional knowledge and inspiration from the more experienced writers on Writing Forums.
Hey Counter, welcome to our humble abode! Wow, that's really specific! I happen to be a huge proponent of journaling for various reasons, as well as discovery writing. That's my name for what you're talking about, because through the writing you discover things about yourself (among other things) and can keep digging deeper into your thoughts and ideas. Let me see if I can find a few posts I've done on the subject, I'll list them here if I do: Clarity, Power, and Discovery in Writing That's all I'm going to link here. The rest seem to be very sepcific to certain topics, but I have written a lot about journaling. I'll send you a PM and we can get into it deeper.
Thank you both for the warm welcome! @Xoic, your link contains very relevant and helpful information!
