Hello everyone, My name is Abdullah, I'm a 30 year old unpublished writer. I was away from writing for a few years, mostly due to my life falling apart and me putting all my energy into feeling like a 'real person' again. I've been consistently hitting the keyboard every day for the last few months. Just starting to churn out some short stories again, which is a huge accomplishment in and of itself for me considering my unintentional hiatus. Well, like I'm sure all of you already know, writing means eventually submitting and submitting more often than not means rejection. I've never been one for writing communities, be it in person or online, mostly because well...I'm not sure if I even qualify for the chance to call myself one. So, rejection brought me here, because if I stay in my bubble of isolation I'm not sure how much I'll really ever improve. So, uh, yeah. Hello!
Nobody here will treat you in a lesser way because you're unpublished. Many people are here in order to improve their game and have better chances at getting published. You've got lots of opportunities to improve yourself (workshop, contests, quite a few discussion boards...). Stay here and challenge yourself with something. You'll be surprised at how much you'll improve. Sincerely, Unpublished person who got a lot out of this place.
@ps102, has it right. Most here are present for the love of story, love of writing, or just a passion for banging their heads against walls, tables, etc. It isn't about being published. It is about the stories.
Hi Abdullah ! Trust me I completely understand where you are coming from. Our backgrounds have some similarities. I look forward to seeing your work. I am here to become a better writer too! But I hope I can help in any way. -Kate-
