Totally prepared for radio silence and tumbleweeds considering NaNoWriMo apparently went and got themselves in the center of about a million different controversies over the space of a year. I decided to do NaNoWriMo for the first time and got all super hyped about it, only to find that the NaNoWriMo forums apparently exploded while I wasn't looking and now I have nobody to talk to about it.
Wow, I had no idea that any of this went down. I just read about what happened and it fills me with rage. I best not go on since what happened is technically off-topic. I wasn't planning on doing NaNo but did toy with the idea a few times. Now I'm 100% not doing NaNo. Although, technically speaking, the challenge and values behind completing a draft in under a month is nothing that's owned by them. No reason why someone can't do the challenge anyway. Just not under their name/site. In fact, I see that the writers who left are starting their own communities.
Let us know how the experience goes. I stuck a toe in NaN0 either last year or two years ago, not sure which. After a few days I felt like forcing myself to write that much every day was taking my story in a bad direction, so I withdrew and slowed down to a more manageable rate. I think it would work if you already have the feel for your story and it isn't tricky like mine was. And I hope you don't get caught up in their sheNaNigans. And I also recall hearing about all that controversy. There's a thread about it in here somewhere. The corporations are getting out of hand left and right.
Nope. I was banned from doing it by my friends, because I got too intense about it years ago. I left their forums for here when they started using: if you’re not X you can’t write about X. Also, I am glad I left, because there was a child grooming scandal last year that was badly handled and the company is now Pro-AI. So, bye, NaNo.
I always think I'm going to do it and then I get home from work and become part of the couch. If it's current projects, I might use NaNo to motivate me to finish them instead of wallering.
Yeah, can still participate in the event without actually supporting the organisation. Lol. Well I'll try my best not to harbour any child predators, get sponsored by scam companies or call people classist and ableist for telling people "it's not okay to have a computer write an entire book for you." No writing a story about orcs unless you're an orc! That's orcish appropriation! Yeah, that's what I'm doing this year
Oh no! Orcish Appropriation! And yeah, you totally can write 50K in a month. I am happy to be your cheerleader.
