Greetings all, I was writing my book when I went stumbled upon a "few" fan-fiction Middle-Earth books. The possibilities astounded me. So when I returned back to write my book, I simply couldn't focus. This sudden desire to write this plot that formed in my mind as a fan-fiction caused me to fall into a rabbit hole. Because I do not wish for it to be filled with false information or not so good quality quotes about elves and such. So I kept digging and digging, making sure what I am writing is correct. This also caused me to want to write some scenes that requires singing. I do not think I am qualified to write song lyrics in my own native tongue let alone in English. So I have been trying to find some examples or written ones in Sindarin but I have failed to do so. My character is a winged elf, an Avariel. My character’s wing is injured and I wish for her to sing a song of longing to the skies. Like how an elf who suffers from Sea Longing would sing or dream of the sea and sailing West. If anyone can help me write something like a song or a few lines of poetry, I would appreciate it. Or if you know someone/someplace that would help me, I would be delighted. Thanks all!
Take a look at https://lotr.fandom.com/wiki/Sindarin that maybe a good place to start looking for what you want.
Sadly no. I am looking for a complete poem/song or someone who knows Sindarin that can help me write one. I do not know Sindarin to write one let alone have any talent in poetry.
This prompt in ChatGPT gave me No idea what the Sindarin actually says. I tried putting the English poem into a translator at https://funtranslations.com/sindarin and got OK, there are quite a few English words in there, but hopefully this gives you a few ideas of what you can do.
Tolkien seems to have written some Sindarin poetry about the stars, but not so much about the air. I imagine some of his verses about the stars might be able to be repurposed, though. There are definitely people on the internet who have gone into Sindarin pretty deeply and who would probably be delighted to help you. You might make someone’s day with your question. Elvish.org looks like a good place to start if you want to email some people; there’s this guy Ryszard Derdzinski who is way into this stuff. I don’t know if he’d respond but an e-mail wouldn’t hurt. There are also lots of people on the tolkien forum who would be great to ask for help. You’d get more responses there than here. https://www.thetolkienforum.com/forums/the-languages-of-middle-earth.61/
This response was exactly what I was looking for. 'cuz I have like no clue where to start. Nothing much comes out from google when you type "Sindarin Songs" sadly. Thank you very much!
Made the poem. Now have to find a way to turn it into Sindarin. Every single translate website lead me into Sindarin's original typing style and I'm starting to think that I need to manually translate this x.x
