Please support indie authors. I never thought about leaving reviews until I co-authored and gave birth to my first book.
I review both if I liked a book or if I didn't like it. Most of the time I just do star ratings because that conveys my thoughts better than I could type them down. I do my reviews on Goodreads, although I haven't always used it.
I do reviews, but I leave a review even if I didn't enjoy the book. I try to be scrupulously fair and treat it like a mini critique, pointing out both positives and negatives.
Where's the sometimes option? If it's a well established book, I suppose I don't see the point. There are enough reviews already. If it's a book that's clearly fledgling in one way or another, then I will leave a review. I 'review' certain books in the Reading Now thread, but that's only really meant for the community for some reason.
Often I don't have time to review books. I am mostly doing audio books as I drive for work. Often it is hard to find a book I don't go through in a single day. If there is something I really like or dislike about a book I will review it.
I've never reviewed anything in my life. Good or bad, book or not. I have to deal with so many of them at work I'm trying to maintain a non-participatory karmic disassociation, if such a thing exists.
Stealing that phrase, embracing the concept. I don't review books or join book clubs to discuss them. Reading is an activity most enjoyed in the privacy of my own mind.
I leave a star rating for every book I read, but I only type up a review if I have something important to say about the book.
