    1800 Number

Discussion in 'Research' started by the1, Feb 10, 2013.

I am hoping someone from the US would be able to help me out here.

I remember dialing a 1800 number in the US which would then connect to some type of computer operator. I would then say the name of a city or state and then the name of a business and I would then be able to pick from a list and be connected to one of the numbers.

The problem is I can not remember what this service is and what the number is.

Does any know what I am going on about? :)

The closest I'm aware of is that 1-800-555-1212 used to be a free directory assistance service, but it was discontinued in 2000. I don't know if it has been replaced by a toll service or is no longer available at all.

i just tried 800-555-1212 and it still works...

however, that will only give you 800-prefix [toll-free] numbers...

for numbers in a specific area, you dial 411 if you are in that area, or if elsewhere, the area code and then 555-1212... there may or may not be a charge for those information services... i think it's something like 25 cents added to your phone bill for each call...
