    creative simile ideas

Discussion in 'Descriptive Development' started by AmyHolt, Aug 30, 2011.

Something that is bright - shines like...

I thought of a spot light or beacon but what else is there. I need some creative ideas.

Try reading George Orwell's Politics and the English Language for ways to avoid bad similies.
Similies should be in tune with the tone of the text, for instance, if you're writing a sad tone, make it shine like a dim light (or something that gives off dim light). Generally speaking, a interesting similie will be original or infrequently used (not something you would hear in day-to-day conversation) and in tune with the tone.

Bright like the shine in my smile as I help you write your story and become a co-author and we get rich together!

    bright as...

    an arc light
    the north star
    a gleam in a lover's eye
the full moon on a cold, clear night

I know what a bad simile is. That was why I didn't want to use the worn out cliche, shines like a beacon. I was hoping for feedback like Mamma gave. Something to spur creativity. :)
