Ok, so I'm still working hard on my sci fi futuristic samurai storyline and I still can't figure out which makes more sense. It's about the MC's parents. I already have the evil general as one of the major antagonists but the MC's parents are still up in the air. I'm still debating on if I should have the father as an antagonist, or the mother or just make them both antagonists. I'm also figuring out if in order to make sense of the MC's background and heritage, I should have his father as being a white samurai or as a Japanese evil businessman or the mother a white samurai or as a Japanese evil businesswoman. I'm trying my best to avoid cliches, doesn't mean I can't have some cliches cause sometimes they work, just not ones that are overdone. I also think I should give the MC some sort of non human mutant powers to explain his special skills and abilities. Does anyone have any good ideas for what I need improvement on and which choices suit best? Thank you for anybody that can help me with this.
You could have him get cybernetically enhanced to compensate for lack of ability maybe? As for the first part, I don't really know what to say. There is so little to work with, and we don't know much about the characters to really be able to say whether they would be good antags. I mean what about his parents being evil business people affecting his life, and how does this Evil General tie into the MCs story? With out some motives or reasoning, it just sounds like you have this badass that needs a badguy or two to battle, so he can be the hero. Where is the reasoning behind the MC having these enemies, if there is no defining traits that would put them at odds with the MC to begin with?
EDIT: sorry I had posted a while back some info about them but a quick rundown would be, The evil general sets up a fighting tournament set up in the beginning for money and fame. The MC still young enters it. He wins with exceptionally great skills beyond normal. General decides to capture MC and brainwash him into his militia. Some point MC either escapes, gone missing or supposedly presumed dead on the battlefield) Eventually goes on a mission to assassinate (either the mother or father) when he's about to complete his mission he realizes it's his (mother or father) gains some memory back, joins (mother or fathers) organization then all hell breaks lose from their on with betrayal from the parent, and on the run from those after him with a price on MC's head. MC who's been in a coma for years, ended up in a lab or hospital, (maybe this is where his abilities are further enhanced) still on the run, years have gone by in a dystopian setting with melee and swords and he starts using samurai swords and from here it picks up with fighting alongside with rebels against the general and his army. Of course other villains will be present but I'm having a difficult time with getting his parents as which is either a good guy or bad guy or both bad guys. I appreciate your help.
You could have them think one only one parent is evil the whole time, then it turns out they've been working together.
I could do that. But what would be more acceptable, the dad white and the mom Japanese or the mom white and dad Japanese?
