    Food of the World

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Bobby Burrows, Dec 5, 2018.

I'm from London, but I'm not going to start this with British cuisine, or even food I can get in London...

I'm going to start this with something I want to try, but something we don't have in the UK.

    It's called Sloppy Joe.

What's a good authentic sloopy joe recipe?

What food comes from your culture?
What foods do you like from all over?
What foods have you heard of, but haven't tried yet?

Well as an American Mutt, what is there to say really.
You can say that if you did a fast food chain line up you
would have the cliche of what the average of us eats.
For some that may be true but not all.
Sloppy Joes are kinda an off-chute of that cliche. :p

I like a bit of Sushi.
Wiener Schnitzel is really good with Spatzel.
The Gyros from a little nook of a Greek restaurant
at the Pikes Place Market in Seattle is really good.

As for foods I want to try, well I have considered going
on a tour of the members around here, there is quite a
diverse spread to work through. :)

British and cuisine are two words that should never, ever appear in the same sentence.;)

The only thing worse than English food, is Scottish food (with all the god damn sheep in their country you'd think they might have found a way to make lamb taste good), followed closely by Canadian food. Unfortunately those are the countries that make up my heritage... though I'm part Ukrainian on my mother's side of the family. Ukrainian food I like. Though they rely a bit too heavily on cabbage, which makes me gassy.

I like Greek food the best. Moussaka is like heaven in your mouth. The perfect meal, in my humble opinion.

    I LOVE Scottish food.

Scotland has some of the best British food going.

    Hmmmm...

I haven't tried their deep fried Mars bar or deep fried pizza slice yet, but those Scots know what tastes good.
Haggis is good, even vegetarian haggis is good.
    Scotch eggs,
    [IMG]
it's like a hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage and bread crumbs.

scotch whiskey even shortbread, those people have excellent food and culture...
    Invented golf too.
That's actually Wales; I know Scotland have their haggis, but, Wales is renowned for lamb.

    They like leek in Wales,

    leek and lamb I guess..

    I like Chicken Kiev.

    That's gotta be Ukrainian right?

You could buy these ready made frozen at the big supermarkets in England/London; These things are tasty.

This is a brand name one and not a domestic supermarket brand one.

I'm not even Scottish, but, again, thank you Scotland.

For the fresh fish and the tasty food all be it salad is an alien word I've heard (IDK, I haven't been), Scotland has some great food and whiskey.

I want to try more Scottish food.

    I haven't tried

deep fried pizza slice, deep fried mars bar, or cranachan yet.

My friend used to get a faraway look in his eyes when he reminisced about the food of China, in China. He was the same friend who said about old ladies sitting on your lap in the park - if the bench was full of other people, like a custom, common practice, an old lady on your lap..

Sometimes I think I dreamed it..

Was on Xbox last night, got to talking about sloppy joe with someone in PA....
    Whatsapp'd me a recipe.
and I showed them what I found
    [IMG]

and, they said that was good for a 'quick sloppy joe recipe' but should take around 40 minutes to an hour to cook basically.
