    Two questions one sentence. Punctuation.

Discussion in 'Word Mechanics' started by Francis de Aguilar, Oct 16, 2017.

Can you tolerate this penetrating light? or is it my role to distract you?

How do I correctly punctuate this line? Maybe the first '?' Should go, be replaced with a comma, or should the the 'o' be O?

Either works, keeping in mind that the latter option makes the second sentence a fragment. I think if you want both questions emphasized, I'd go with two sentences.

If you break it into two sentences it feels like there would be a break verbal break between the two questions. Whereas if you use a comma to separate the questions, it feels like it's all coming out in one breath. If you do use two sentences, though, the 'or' probably should be capitalized.
