    Help identifying steinbeck quote

Discussion in 'Discussion of Published Works' started by No-Name Slob, Sep 20, 2015.

Guys -- I'm not a huge Steinbeck fan (don't shoot). I started reading Travels with Charley and I became exceptionally bored and annoyed with his writing style, and gave up. So I need your help here, for anyone who really likes Steinbeck.

I keep seeing this quote, which seems to be linked to the book, but I can't find any actual and solid confirmation that this is a quote from Steinbeck. Does anyone remember reading this in Charley???

A simple "yes" or "no" will suffice. :) Thanks!

Yes. It's from an essay called 'The Hairstylist'.

It looks very common online. I couldn't find anything that corroborated that Steinbeck was a hairdresser but that is referred to in links with the quote, as are references implying it's in the book or related to an event in Travels With Charley.

There are lots of pictures of the printed piece citing Steinbeck as the author. Pinterest has many as does Google Images.

That's very extensive for a hoax or false attribution. But it's possible. I'd go with, probably true. :)
