Hi, Using this image from Skyrim as an example: For those of you who don't know the city of Whiterun in that game, basically there is a river which runs through it and then as you can see, the water exits the city via various little streams like this one and joins up with the main river again. Is there any particular name for that small gated section where the water exits? For some reason I was thinking "runoff", but I'm not sure that makes sense. Or would it just be a "drain" or something? Thanks
It is known as a grate, or grating. And if you are feeling particularly dark, then it is a body strainer keeping the corpses from entering the wild.
Might also be called a 'sluice'. "A sluice (from the Dutch "sluis") is a water channel controlled at its head by a gate."
