Hi guys. I’m new here and I made an account because I’m writing this story and I suck at good descriptions. I just need help describing this dress. Thank you )
While I think you should find your own way to describe it and develop your own style, I'll give you some things to start with 1. You don't have to over complicate things, you can just describe it as a short, light blue, sparkly dress if you want (not in those exact words, of course). 2. Maybe talk about how the dress compliments the person wearing it (assuming someone is wearing it). Talk about how they look with it on, and throw in some description of the dress in there as well. 3. See how some of your favorite authors describing clothing or something similar, and see what you like about it (but don't directly copy their style). Hope this was of some help!
Who is describing it? The character wearing it? Someone seeing it on someone else? Does the person describing it know/care about fashion? Do they like it? Hate it? Why is this dress so important? How would you describe it to begin with? You've chosen this dress for a reason - how would you describe it to us if you couldn't post a picture? If you want to learn how to write good description you'll have to practice it. Write it. Does it suck? Why does it suck? Read a lot. How does other people do it? Do their description suck? Yes, why - no, why not? Me? The girl wore a icy blue, rather tacky, dress with glitter that made people motion sick as they watched her twirl.
Yeah, I kinda forgot to ask who was describing it. I just assumed it was someone else, not the person wearing it. I may be wrong, however.
Yeah, I guess the person wearing it wouldn't straight up describe it, but that it might still be described from their point of view. Still I think it would make a difference if it's described from some guy who is like "I'm pretty sure she was dressed. There was sparkling going on" or some fashion person who would describe the color, fabric and model and all. I think your first post nailed it. "Short, light blue, sparkly" In EXACTLY those words. Nothing more, nothing less
Yeah I’ve been practicing a lot lately with all the descriptive and new words and it did help. Thanks for this
