Ok, don't hate right away... but, I am a HUGE Disney fan. I grew up going to Disney with my family, sometimes twice a year! And here comes just a brief history... The main reason was my brother. He was born with a chromosomal disorder which resulted in a number of medical issues. He used a wheelchair for the majority of his transportation, but sometimes during therapy he would use a walker to try and strengthen his leg muscles. He used a device called a Dyna Vox to communicate since he was unable to "speak" traditionally. At a very young age he was trached, due to being unable to breathe the way many of us can. He was also unable to eat like most of us do, do he was fed via a G tube, which was a direct port into his stomach. He underwent many, many surgeries over the course of his 20 years. However, he wasn't supposed to live more than 24 hours. He had other plans though, and lived a very full, very lively, very adventurous 20 years. He was my big brother, was the "glue" of the family, and brought Disney into my life. Anyway, I love Disney! My phone case is Beauty and the Beast, my purse is Minnie Mouse, my wallet is The Little Mermaid... I dressed up as Ariel for Halloween and literally dyed my hair red, now that is commitment! haha! But I love pretty much anything Disney. Whether it be the parks, the movies, the merchandise, it's all good for me! I figured this is the Lounge, so, I just wanted to see if anybody had Disney experiences or opinions they wanted to share!
My mum used to take me to our local theatre whenever a Disney film arrived, and the feeling of magic, enchantment and escape was beyond anything I'd ever known before or since. When we were sat in that half-empty, dark and damp fleapit of a place, watching those films, nothing else in the world existed. My favourite was Pinocchio.
Yes! Whenever I see a Disney movie, to this day, I get that same feeling. It's nice to see someone else has experienced the same emotions! Do you have a favorite movie?
I like the movies. The park was okay, but I also never went as a kid. I went with someone else and her kids, so there really wasn't much nostalgia offsetting the prices, my general dislike of crowds, the fact that I drove from -30°C Northern Canada to schlep about in the sunny Florida for three days with little to no sleep, no alcohol, and the southern states' seeming preference for weak coffee. The movies were a part of my childhood, though, as I'm sure they were a part of everyone's. The Lion King is probably in my top 5 favourite movies and I mentally start singing that Mulan song every time someone says, "Let's get down to business." Not a real fan of Walt Disney as a person, though. He was a pretty huge anti-semite, refused to hire women for a stunning amount of positions, and used the McCarthy era communism scares to avoid paying his workers a decent wage and keep them from unionizing. I'm also not a fan of the corporation buying their way around copyright laws in order to keep Mickey Mouse from going into the Public Domain; which is a shame, because I am a fan of the films and art. So I am a little torn on Disney as a whole.
