Do you tend to stick to one genre in your stories? I tended to only write fantasy in the past, but since I've come back into writing, I've tried my hand at horror, history and comedy, as well as imitating another author's style. Mainly, I've done this to see if I could, and if I enjoyed the challenge - and I must say, I have been enjoying it. How about you all?
Yes, no I don't tend to stick to genre norms. So even though I write different genres I still have a similar style. So I don't know if anyone could call any of my stories true horror, true sci-fi or true fantasy.
Although I don“t stick with one genre, I have the main one which explains my story and plot. But generally no, I will always bring other genres to complete.
Most of what I write is Fantasy. Most of the rest is Sci-Fi. The infinitesimal remainder is Horror. Then again, I often blend two of those (or all three) in my stories. Sometimes there is a clear primary genre with just a bit of spice from the other ones, sometimes there's a distinct ~50-50 split, and sometimes even I have trouble telling where a given story belongs.
I write straight contemporary, literary fare. I enjoy fantasy and sci fi but world building is unfathomably boring to me so I can't really write either.
I write mostly horror, but sometimes I dabble in regular adult fiction and on rare occasions poetry. I like to write for whatever story I want to tell, and if it's different from my main genre, then so be it.
Good question! My main writing consists of essays and other non-fiction, as my blog shows, but I also do some poetry and song-writing, and the very occasional short fiction piece.
