    SAR

Discussion in 'Military Fiction Discussions' started by Lifeline, Jun 10, 2017.

Any recommendations on books? AndI've already read Bravo Two Zero, Bravo Six Zero, Lone Survivor, and various others which have'd wide public attention.

I'm asking specifically about SAR mission.

Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War, by Mark Bowden.

I cannot even begin to describe what this event meant for the world, or how well the book lays out this military operation. The best I can do is show you a clip from the motion picture based on the book, which got a lot of it right, although the book is better, going into insane detail on every aspect of the mission.

And ultimately, how it can all go horribly wrong.

Black Hawk Down had been the very first war-movie I watched, ever.

It was about 2002, I had a boyfriend who liked war-movies. I didn't. But in the interest of 'keeping the peace', one sunday afternoon I sat down with him. Afterwards, certain images of the movie stayed branded in my brain.

I confess that I haven't thought about Black Hawk Down as a SAR mission, but you're right. It was. And I even have the book at home, just not read (yet).

the Novel NORTH SAR by Gerry Carroll is good from a helicopter pilots point of view (it may be out of print but you can borrow my copy if you want). Rescue Pilot by Jerry Grayson is a good non fiction also from a heli point of view (although hes dealing with peace time ops), and "leave no man behind" by George Galdorisi and Thomas Phillips is good on CSAR

I also suggest reading The Modern Mercenary, by Sean McFate.

It lays out where things are headed real well.

Yeah, I suspected as much. I've read 'The circuit', 'Born Fearless' and a few other online resources, but I hadn't known about 'Modern Mercenaries'. I need to stop asking for new resources (Hello FBI! Nice to meet you!). If I'm not on some watchlist by now, I'll eat my hat :D Thank you.
