So, tonight I was having issues with the Word and Notepad desktop icons kept changing by themselves. That was all resolved, but in the process the support agent was opening various files to test things when, of all the files in Word's history, he opened one where I was ... dabbling in erotica (which I'm currently terrible at, but I digress). I was absolutely horrified, thinking to myself, "Why did you pick that one?" And it's not "hidden" under an innocuous name, either, it's literally called "Intimate Scenes." I'm wondering if I might still die of embarrassment in my sleep.
Hehe, that indeed sounds embarrassing. But I wouldn't think too much on it. Support has probably seen it all. It was likely just another day at the office for them. Unless it was their first day, in which case you made it a mild start for them.
At least the guy couldn't see you. An engineer came out to check our wifi. Young Portuguese guy -no English. I don't know why or how but he displayed all the images in my search history. Um... I'd been researching ladyboys for a short story I was writing. He looked at the screen, looked at my husband and then me and then made a sharp exit. Not a word was spoken. My hubby was mortified!
I can sympathize. When I moved here about 9 years ago, I had a tech come on site to install my internet and TV and all that. To make sure everything was working, he went on my laptop and decided to start typing "you" in my browser, to go to YouTube. Well, back then I never watched anything on YouTube. I did, ah, watch some things on a different site that started with "you," though. Extremely awkward, but at least it was pretty much the last step of the install job and he was gone within minutes. I have spent some time working in support where I've remoted on to client workstations, and yeah, this kinda stuff just happens sometimes (especially if they're working from home!). At worst, the techs just end up with an amusing anecdote to share with their colleagues. I've heard and recited many such tales.
Well, I'm glad I'm not alone here. Honestly, with some of the stuff I research for my projects, I wouldn't be surprised if I got guys from one or two three-letter agencies monitoring me.
