How to set up a meeting?

Discussion in 'Plot Development' started by ChrisGallagher, Apr 26, 2010.

My novel opens with an official from a paramilitary corporation approaching a senior Russian politician with a deal that could change the entire world.

The thing is, I can't think of an appropriate way of introducing themselves to each other. On one hand, I want the chapter to be interesting, but on the other, I don't want it to be too forceful for the sakes of it being realistic.

I originally wrote it as the official's men slamming into the Russian's hotel room, but that falls into being forceful.

$200 million is at stake in this scene. I want to make it good.

    Anyone have any ideas?

maybe it could be one man, going to the hotel room,as if bringing food,(that's been done too much probably)

a woman(an escort) going to deliver a message,

maybe they have someone already waiting in the room, when he checks in,(dont know how)

I dont know, these probably wont work, but maybe they will spark a new idea in you

Russian enters hotel room, begins to unpack his luggage. The lights dim, he grows sleepy, passes out. Lights come back on, Russain is awake, sitting in a chair in the room, his hands are not bound, he is not being held captive. Official is now standing in room in front of him, neatly pressed business suit and a smirk, "I have an offer to make, I suggest you take me up on it..."

If he's a politiciann then maybe you could have a scene at a political funraiser. Then perhaps the man from the paramilitary corporation wants to make a hefty "Campaign Contribution".

I like the con man's approach.

"Oh, excuse me. I think you dropped this."
"Oh, how silly of me, thank you. Can I buy you a drink?"
"Um... I don't see why not."
"A drink it is then. By the way..."

Sounds like some powerful people, and powerful people may not wish to give up certain things, such as the location of this or that.

It's difficult to be original for me. I lean towards the idea of some sort of blinded kidnapping to keep a meeting location private. But wait.....

...That was BATMAN!! Ya got any Bat-Spray knock out gas in the chapter yet? :D

    Sorry, that's all I got.

Love to hear what you go with.
