Hi again everyone. As was requested, I put together a genre specific month this month and decided to touch on a genre that's often passed over in book clubs and the book store: the western. So I've compiled a small list to poll from this month. Thank you for the current responses in the Watership Down discussion, as it's getting down to good debates on certain decisions Adams' made in his writing of the novel. I hope we can continue this and make it a monthly tradition! Also remember, any suggestions for next month are greatly appreciated. Thank you @Friedrich Kugelschreiber for Watership Down! I was very happy to revisit that one, though my time was very limited last month.
Hope Lonesome Dove wins! I've had that on my kindle for a long time. This would be a good push to plunge into it.
Come on LD! The writer of that Larry McMurtry also wrote the novel that was adapted into one of my favourite films - The Last Picture Show. And he wrote another film that I don't know if I liked, but was heavily emotionally manipulated into tears by - Terms of Endearment. He also wrote the screenplay for Brokeback Mountain, which also gets the tears flowing.
If you like Brokeback Mountain, I would check out Annie Prouxl in general, as that is one of her short stories. She has quite a few good ones in her Wyoming Stories that are excellent, and the film adaptation maintains the tone and setting, as well as character beautifully.

Ah okay, well, you're always welcome to the discussions! Wasn't trying to give you a hard time, by the way, I'm just having fun talking about different books with other writers. I do discussion boards for classes on great literature, but it's often too objective in that the students want to get a good grade from the professor and try to root out the style and mindset the professor desires to hear. I don't have that here so I like it.
Alright everyone, I'm closing this one a day and a half early as a leader pulled away. Our book this month is Larry McMurtry's Lonesome Dove. It's fairly large, so I wanted to make sure to give everyone as much time as possible. I will be posting the opening comments on the 20th of the month, like always. Also, the Adams discussion for July is still alive and well, with new posters each day, so thank you for making this last month a successful group! Mine should come in tomorrow, and if I get a little ahead on my coursework, I may get to start moving on it too. It looks like a beast!
Look at the cartoon strip, "Tumbleweeds" - not sure if it is one word or two words, it was before my time (or my local newspaper did not carry it) but I have seen a paperback collection of the cartoons. Bit dated and not politically correct by today's standards but it made me laugh.
Well, it's clearly The Lone Ranger and Tonto, so you wouldn't expect political correctness, I reckon. And it's not as if the Lone Ranger wins.
Regretfully, I will not be able to hold the August book club post and discussion beginning at the proper time this month due to a number of personal issues, chiefly that of having to speak at and travel to my grandfather's funeral which means I need to write something good for him and the family. I'm sure this is a disappointment to those who are in the works of finishing or have finished this month's novel, but I'm just out of what little time I have. I will instead be skipping August, and instead holding the discussion for Lonesome Dove on September 20th. This is the longest book we've had yet for this monthly meeting, so maybe the extended period will give readers a bit more time to chew on the material. I will have it done and be available then. I apologize for the delay. Thanks for everyone sticking along with the club. It's sincerely been wonderful so far, and though this month is unfortunately just not plausible for me. Looking forward to hearing from you on September 20th.

Well personally I'm benefiting because last month's procrastination didn't get entirely better. I do have the book this time! And I'm 15 chapters in. Which is like a sixth of this very, very dense book. Well-wishes to you and your family during this time, EF.
