Hello, everyone! My deuteragonist was a guardian 10 years before the story. In a battle, another guardian (whom she worked alongside) had to sacrifice himself to defeat an enemy once and for all. Ever since the event, the world was safe, and she lived a normal life. The plot, however, leads her younger brother, the protagonist, to fulfill his dream of being a guardian himself, and she chooses to join along to look after him. How does that event affect the present? Will she end up disliking being a guardian because she lost a friend when she was one? What will it be like when certain things relive her traumas? Thank you and have a nice day!
You have a lot of leeway in how you approach this, from resilience to brokenness. Her personality and defense mechanisms and the relationship history between your character and the dead guardian would decide her reaction. The real question is: Where do you want the story to go? Is the story about the younger brother or about her triumph over her loss?
The story is about the younger brother. He dreams of doing and being something out of the ordinary and accepts the offer to be a guardian. The first book of the series, however, will contain a sub-plot regarding her loss once the main plot breaks. By "break," I meant that she will separate from her younger brother which will build the sub-plot about her befriending someone with a similar experience and that new friend will stick the plots back together when his goal requires something regarding the younger brother. Regarding the personality, defense mechanisms, and relationship history, thank you very much for the advice.
