    Founding Writers Program

Discussion in 'Writing Software and Hardware' started by storyverse, Jul 12, 2023.

    Hi everyone,

First of all, very excited to join this forum and the writers community. My co-founder and I are building a platform for writers with the goal of helping them get discovered, build an audience and get paid. The platform will also incorporate tools which assist writers in enhancing their stories and making them more immersive.

Since we are in it for the long haul and are just getting started, we would love to get some feedback from members of this community who are either just getting started or already have an established following. We are planning to partner with 20-30 such writers to build a product that speaks to their needs as a part of our Founding Writers Program. We will heavily promote and feature writers and stories participating in this program when our product goes live in 30 days.

If any of you are interested in chatting with us about your experience as a writer so far we would love to talk to you! Please let me know.

    Friendly Mod warning...

as @Earp says, advertising or promotion of paid for services is strictly forbidden - that doesn't mean that we don't welcome shared knowledge or opportunities. It is a very fine line which I don't think you have crossed yet, but anything that resembles advertising or promotion will quickly be jumped upon. As you're "in it for the long haul", and as you must have an interest in writing and writers, get involved and chat away to members, but this is a writing site for writers, not a place to plug or promote.

This might just be me but if tools, which I imagine are AI-based, make the story 'more immersive' for you, I will question your authorship.

Hey thanks for the note! Our perspective is that human writing and creativity is unmatched. Any tools to be incorporated will assist writers in other tasks - whether initial idea generation or image creation. Happy to chat further.

I'd be interested to help, but only if you'll publicly swear there's no AI of any kind in the tech stack.

My co-founder and I both got tired of working in corporate and wanted to pursue something more entrepreneurial and creative. We've both always had a love for fiction and reading since middle school. My co-founder always stated his retirement goal to write an epic fantasy fiction series. When we finally quit our day jobs and started writing, we started noticing some pain points amateur writers face in getting recognized and eventually paid (and that's a big if). We saw platforms using "free" written content to generate revenue without the actual authors behind it getting paid. We decided to change this one sided business model by creating a new platform where writers no matter how famous get recognized and paid for their work.

Thanks for the offer, will definitely take you up on it! The platform we are working on right now is geared to use AI to assist writers in other facets of the story creation (e.g. art generation). We strongly believe in human creativity driving the actual writing process.

That sounds all nice and good, but I'm seaming you and your partner are expecting some sort of financial return on your project. Sorry, but I've been a member of this community for a long time and I care about the other members. It just raises a red flag when someone comes in here offering to help people get their writing noticed and get paid. The only way that's ever worked for me is to work hard on my writing. I can't see how any outsider could have helped me in any way. Also, it's hard to imagine you know the publishing industry any better than most of us. Again, just looking out for my friends here.

Some publishers clearly state they want nothing to do with any work that has had anything to do with AI. If you're aiming your operation at writers who self publish, I'm even more worried about the intent and the financial gain your new operation is expecting.

Also, writers are already getting paid for good writing. It's how it works. How could you possibly help this process? Another red flag is using the words "no matter how famous" when you haven't even really tested your business model let alone explained what it is you actually plan on doing here. Famous writers aren't going to need you help. Hell, I'm not even sure how good writers need your help. And it also doesn't seem like you have much in terms of qualifications or experience in the industry.

And then you say you'll be using AI...

This just isn't sitting right with me. But you are more than welcome to prove me wrong if you care to explain and be a lot more transparent.
