Blank verse is poetry that has been written in unrhymed iambic pentameter (thats five feet, with a foot being an unstressed beat followed by a stressed beat). William Shakespeare wrote most of his plays in blank verse. source: http://www.types-of-poetry.org.uk/07-blank-verse.htm A good example of blank verse is Robert Frosts 'Birches' poem. Here are the first few lines followed by a link to the rest. When I see birches bent to left and right Across the lines of straighter darker trees, I like to think some boy's been swinging them. But swinging doesn't bend them down to stay http://www.ketzle.com/frost/birches.htm Saying that though, it doesn't always have to be in that set meter. Others are acceptable to some. source: http://www.uni.edu/~gotera/CraftOfPoetry/blankverse.html The comment on Yoda half way down had me curled up! (Yoda I miss *sigh*)
