So, I suppose an introduction is in order. I'm a Dutch guy, currently living in Brazil. A lovely virus is preventing me from finding work, so I decided to focus a bit more on my writing. I recently completed my 3rd novel-length story, one I put more hours in than ever before. During that process, I recognized a sort of stagnation. I feel like I won't be able to learn much more on my own; studying examples, reading articles, and watching videos. The next step is to find like-minded individuals with whom to discuss writing in general, and my own in particular. That's why I'm here! I'll be trying to get my novel published once the visuals are done. I may also be entering into contests here. A few weeks after I turned 30 I realized why it hits people so hard. When you hit 30 is when you realized you're not who you could have been, and the reasons for that are here to stay. Thank you.
Hi Chekhov. I'm a USA guy, already wondering if this forum is a good fit, considering you've written three books and I'm just starting out with some 'memoir' type non-fiction stuff. I'm not even much of a reader when it comes down to it. But I want to share what I am doing, see if there's anything worthwhile about a fairly unusual family survivor experience. Indeed, like-minded souls must be lurking here, so just maybe this little bug in my head will actually come to something, once, um, properly motivated...? The turning-30-thing didn't happen to me until about 60, due to stunted growth caused by PTSD and major depression. A current family loss has triggered some desire to freakin' write stuff down. So here we go. Welcome, and I look forward to reading what you decide to share with the group. Peace.... Alex.
Don't sweat it. When you hit 40 you'll realize that you're who you were always supposed to be, and the things you thought to the contrary were self-indulgent garbage.
Chekhov's Pen, Welcome. Finishing a 3rd novel and moving toward trying to get it published. Great job. Farther than many ever get. Keep pressing on, and glad you joined us here. Terry
I like to think I can be more than I am today, though, so I'll keep working on that. Perhaps by 40 I'll learn why I was wrong... or not . Hi Alex! Anyone can write. It's a skill you can develop, if you wish, so... Welcome to you, too! I'm sure your past and perspective can be used to create great works. And sure, I've written some stuff before, but I can't vouch for the quality, haha. Peace! Hi Terry! Well, my 3rd novel-length work. I only finished 2 of them, and we'll never talk about the first one ever again . We'll see if it ever goes anywhere... But in the meantime I get to write shorts whenever someone mentions something offhand, and it's always a hoot. I'm glad I joined!
