    G’day!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by AG Walker, Mar 11, 2023.

Hi and no, I’m not Australian but “G’day” seemed as good a title as any!

I’m researching a historical novel and am conscious of the responsibility of being historically accurate and the sheer amount of time I could spend on research.

Great to be on this forum and best of luck to everyone who is currently researching or writing at the moment:)

I’m currently reading some historical fiction and it seems there’s more to writing a novel like that than meets the eye. Depending on the place and era you’re writing about, you’d have to be accurate with the clothes people used to wear then, the setting eg. how the roads used to look and the ways people used to commute. That sort of thing. Remember there used to be a time when people thought it odd that women would wear trousers? Today it’s not unusual.

Thanks Catriona, it’s set in Scotland, 1880-1890.

I'm writing my memoir. Although writing and having the facts, I still need to do further research. Having the information down helps in remembering the finer details.
Writing a novel can take 1-2 years. Writing a memoir or biography can take 5-15 years (or so I've found out by some authors). It's hard work and now, can understand why
