Ahem...it have my nickname name (Amber) and I add "Itz" Itz is like "It's" and I usually use this name for some games or as my username in other websites. So, the meaning of my username is "It is Amber" lol.
Hammer was my great, great, great uncle . He was a ship's captain - he skippered the Sir Andrew Hammond on a whaling voyage in the early 1830s. We still have a few artefacts - a log-book, a telescope, some gifts the crew made for him and his wife (she came on some of his voyages which was almost unheard of in those days), including a couple of scrimshawed whale teeth and a fruit bowl made of whalebone. It is on my list for a possible nom de plume...
Well, since you ask: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sapere_aude I have always been curious, and prone to investigating various and sundry bits of arcana, so "Dare to be wise" sounded appropriately Latin, erudite, and obscure as a screen name for someone who is neither Latin nor erudite -- but certainly obscure.
Mine is pretty dull Robert m Brown. My parents were going to name me Calvin Titus Brown after my grand father, they had decided on the name long before I was born. At the last minute my mother thought that I would be picked on for having an unusual name, so she went with a common name. I can check into a hotel and there have been hundreds there before with the same name, I have trouble at the local bank because there are 23 other Robert Browns that are customers, and the truth be known, I was the bully in school, not the victim, doubt that had anything to do with my name. I use my real name, my real picture, after having a common name in real life why not do what few others do on a forum.
It's the name of a very distant relative of mine. My mother suggested I use it as a pen name, which hasn't happened yet. Not sure why I picked it here... must have popped in my head. Same thing with the Nelson avatar, of which, I've had dozens. Just something that happened and stuck. If I knew I was going to be around for ~8K posts I probably would have picked something cooler.
I made up this name at school when I pretended I was the headmaster's son with kids in other year groups. Now I just use it online as a fake name.
I thought it was a reference to John Abbott McNeil Whistler, the painter famous for Whistler's Mother. Oops... a quick google tells me his first name was actually James.
Speaking of usernames -- literally every time I see you post or comment, no matter what the context is, all I can think of is this:
And ironically, he's one of the least trollish people 'round these parts. At least in internet slingo.
As per my signature, I wasn't expecting to need the forum for more than one question so it seemed a waste of time to get creative about it. Guess who has regrets.
An eccentric connection to thunderstorms ever since I was small: and an affinity for angel wings, and grace.
From the bible. - 16 Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus. 17 For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry. 18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. 19 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood. __ Seemed pretty metal to me.
Monte Carlo simulations can be used to quantify to uncertainty of an outcome based on a broad array of probabilistic inputs. The simulations are best used when the scenario modeled is too complex to be easily defined by statistical equations or distributions. Nate Silver’s election forecasts are based on Monte Carlo simulations. I don’t use them very often (but I have built some very intricate ones in the past).
From my favourite film Kes, which I suspect few of you will know. There’s a scene towards the end of the film, after Billy, the main character, is looking for his brother after he notices his pet Kestrel is missing. He runs into a betting shop and asks one of the guys “‘Ave you seen our Jud?”
