    Greetings from Menelaos!

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by Menelaos Gkikas, Feb 10, 2020.

I studied Industrial Management and Technology at the University of Piraeus, and I continued my studies with an MBA specializing in Marketing, at City University of Seattle. I attended Public Relations Seminars at the Hellenic American Union. I am a Michigan Proficiency holder and my first book was entitled “Mathematical Models”. My quests and concerns have led me to literature and social networking. I have my own blogs on the internet, a Writing Forum about Art and Fantasy entitled “Writer’s PlayBook”, and I have attended seminars on Creative Writing, Screenwriting as well as topics related to Social Media, Digital Content, Communication and Conflict Management. I am active in the area of Social Networking on Social Media and Digital Marketing, and I daily develop my own Creative Portfolio. I have creative experience in Business Game Simulations and I am data-driven. I also deeply believe in lifelong learning.
In 2018, I got a complete certification from Google Digital Garage in Digital Marketing. Google Digital Garage is the Google Academy for Digital Marketing named after their first funded start-up, Google Digital Garage.

I have completed and self-published a screenplay, a romantic drama at the global internet (as an ebook and print on demand) known as The Words of Emily Logan and I am currently thinking of publishing a fairytale fantasy, a short story as well! I enjoy creative writing, reading all kinds of books.

Hello Menelaos! I'm one of the forum moderators here, and I want to extend a warm welcome to you.

Good heavens! Where do I start? You certainly have qualifications in many different spheres, and have studied and worked in many places. You are obviously bilingual (at least two?) You have an impressive collection of skills and experience that I'm sure the forum will benefit from. Wow.

And you have written and published one work, with others in the pipeline. And you love to read. I find it interesting that with degrees and interests in management and technology and mathematics, you also are so interested in creative writing ...enough to have written a romantic drama. You sound like a truly 'Renaissance' individual. Fantastic stuff.

So ...what drew you to this forum? What are you hoping for, as you join up and get to know us?

We are a varied bunch, coming from all around the world, with various levels of writing experience, and various interests in what we write or would like to write. We also range in age here, from young teenagers of 12-13 years old to ...erm never mind. There is also a very wide range of interest in genres, but the one you mentioned—Fantasy—is probably our most popular. (Mine is historical fiction which comes WAY down the popularity list here, but there are a few of us.)

Anyway, I hope you settle in quickly, and get to know us, while we get to know you. To that end, please DO read these two important links, if you haven't already. They'll let you know how we operate here, and what to expect from the forum.

    and

In addition to those links, here are a few others you might find helpful.

    https://www.writingforums.org/faq/

This is an interactive site map which will reveal all areas of the forum without needing to trawl through our menu bar.

    https://www.writingforums.org/threads/constructive-critiques.20627/

If you read the New Member Quick Start you will realise that doing critiques is part of what we expect our forum members to do, if they want to post any of their own work for feedback here. This link gives you an idea of what we expect from our critiques.

    https://www.writingforums.org/writing-contests/

This is an area you can jump into right away. At any given time we have three contests running ...Short Story, Flash Fiction and Poetry. These are usually prompted contests, although the Short Story contest that is being voted on just now was unprompted.

We REALLY appreciate it when people take the time to read the entries and vote on them. And you are more than welcome to enter any of the open contests as well, even as a brand-new member. I like to think the entries are to quite a high standard, considering the varied experience levels of our membership. At any rate, the contests are fun.

Anyway, take your time to browse the forum threads and sections. Feel free to contribute to any ongoing discussions that draw your attention. The more you post, the more people will get to know you and make you feel welcome here.

If you have any difficulty getting settled, don't hesitate to click my owl avatar and 'start a conversation' with me. I'll do my best to help. Meanwhile, hope to see you around the threads. Have fun!

    Cheers for now,
    Jan
