    Introduction

Discussion in 'New Member Introductions' started by ricketybridge, May 27, 2008.

Hi, I'm in Los Angeles and want to be a screenwriter, but ironically the only things I've posted here so far are a short story and a short play. Go figure. :)

In a way, I'm getting back into writing after a long hiatus, and am very frustrated at what a wide, wide world it seems, but hey, one step at a time, right?

    Nice to meet you all,
    rickety

Hello Rickety, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ as well, and be sure to read through the forum rules, too, to avoid any misunderstandings or hurt feelings. Respect for one another is our principal mandate.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

    welcome, rick!

i mentor lots of aspiring screenwriters and have access to an exec at one of the 'big 3' agencies [but used only for works i find to be highly marketable], so let me know if you need any help...

    love and hugs, maia

ricketybridge - You have more than adequately demonstrated your writing ability with your short story, 'Perfect'. If you can translate the same kind of character building and scene setting into a screenplay, no doubt you will succeed. Of course, then you'll have to buy a tee-shirt that says, 'What I really want to do is direct'.

You might want to consider not trying to narrow your focus to a a single genre. Explore it all.

    Thanks, everyone!

And thanks, Garza! Haha, I'll definitely have to pick up one of those T-shirts. :D
