    Round Robin Roleplay Beginner's Guide

Discussion in 'Archive' started by Gravy, Jan 15, 2025.

A round robin roleplay is the other style of game that differs from the traditional roleplay style. In round robin, players take turns and write all the characters. I am sure many writers are familiar with the writing exercise where people at a table write a line of a story and pass it to the next person. That's what this is. And to help me create an example, @ps102 and @EFMingo have offered to write with me. When one does a round robin style, each player has their own unique style to bring to the table, which makes it fun.

When one does a round robin game, the GM is expected to post the list of turn order like so:
    1. @Gravy
    2. @ps102
    3. @EFMingo

Along with details about how long a person has for their 'turn', which is at minimum 7 days.

Post #1 (the GM will start the game with an opening post of no more than 700 words. But I'm going to keep it short for the example.)

Once upon a time, there was a king who lived in a dark forest. He did not have a castle, or a court, because he had run away. He felt he wasn't worthy of ruling the kingdom, so left matters in the hands of his advisors and went to live a quite life. The king was afraid at first what everyone would think, but soon forgot his troubles as he built a new life. He raised chickens, goats, and many other fluffy animals to keep him company.

But one day when he was out tending to his sheep, the King noticed smoke rising from above the forest canopy. He figured it was merely travelers passing through the wood, but midday, he heard the sound of hooves coming closer and closer. The King went back to his little wooden cabin and shut the door tight.

He wanted nothing to do with his old life full of stress and worldly duties.

(Then, when I have written my post, it's the next person's turn to continue the story.)
