Hello! I'm a 20 something grad student who has decided that she just needs to get back into writing. I haven't really written for fun in a few years, and it's been even longer since I wrote anything that wasn't fanfiction. Everything else has been research papers and homework assignments. I may be proud of some of those, but there's still nothing like a little creative writing. I tend to write in the sci-fi/fantasy genre, but I have ideas outside of that. Those just tend to be the most fun stories to me. Honestly, I'm super busy with my homework and research papers right now, but I have ADHD, so I was hoping giving myself something that I actually want to work on will help get me to my computer and I can just work off that momentum to keep myself caught up. I am a little stressed because I'm trying to work on a book, and I feel like I have to do a bunch of research to make it turn out the way I want it to because I get really caught up in the details. I'm trying on just ironing out the basic storyline first and then add in details as I go. Actually, my current idea isn't sci-fi/fantasy, but it is partially based off of a fairytale so there's that.
Welcome! Take it piece by piece, the research and writing. Remember, 250 words per day will give you a 90k word novel in a year.
Hello and welcome, have a look around and make yourself at home. Looking forward to seeing you in the forums!
Hello! I really do remember the college years, and also the time spent getting my masters. Constant writing of research papers. Definitely takes a different mindset to switch from doing that kind of work to using your imagination to create something of your own. Good luck to you in school and also with your book.
Welcome! I'm a new member here too. I'm getting back into the writing groove after taking a few years off. I also feel like I have a lot of research to do, the self publishing landscape has changed since my last attempt to finish a book. I see there are plenty of helpful people, links, and resources on this forum. I hope you find them useful too. Cheers to you, and much success!
