    Children's shows

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by CDRW, Sep 2, 2009.

So what children's shows affected you as, you know, a child?

I credit reading rainbow with a large part of my love for books, and my love for science probably stems from 3, 2, 1 Contact! That's where I first learned that ironwood sinks.

That's Morgan Freeman there in the back. This was my favorite show.

Holy crap! I just read that 3 2 1 Contact was canceled when I was two years old! That definitely puts it among my earliest memories.

BTW, I also loved the original 3-2-1 Contact! As a little nerdy kid, I was like, "SCIENCE!!!!!":D

Yes, I remember! That's the segment with the ironwood trivia. I don't remember it all, but some lady was busted for some crime because she said the boat she was on sunk and she grabbed onto a floating piece of ironwood to save herself and the little smart guy was all "ironwood doesn't float" and everybody was like "pwned!"

I don't know if it was the same segment, but I remember another one where the kid accidentally kills a cactus by overwatering it.

I loved "Ghost Writer" and "Where in the world is Carmen Sandiago?" when I was young. Other than that, I watched cooking shows on PBS (The Frugal Gormet, the cajun guy, Julia Child, oh and Victory Garden) I guess childrens shows weren't doing it for me all that much. haha!

when i was a kid, all we had were radio shows!

and i don't know that there were any for children, as all i can recall listening to were programs like:

    the lone ranger
    the green hornet
    amos and andy
    backstage wife
    grand central station
lux theater [movies without the picture]
    adventurers club
    inner sanctum
    the railroad hour [operettas]
    and
sam spade [i fell in love/lust with spade's voice/character at an early-single digit--age, spent an incredible weekend with 'him'--howard duff--decades later]

I used to watch Felix the Cat, Clutch Cargo, Scott McCloud: Space Angel, Fireball XL-5, and The Adventures of Superman. But I also watched primetime dramas like Highway Patrol, The Troubleshooters, Ripcord, Checkmate, and variety shows like The Jackie Gleason Show, The Jack Benny Program, The Red Skelton Show, and comedies like Burns and Allen, The Honeymooners.

I also watched Walt Disney's Wonderful World, before it became Disney's Wonderful World of Color. We didn't have a color set anyway. Only te town dentist had the kind of money to get one of those early color sets.

EDIT: I forgot a couple Saturday morning faves: Fury, Sky King, and the Lone Ranger.

I remember a lot of the old Nick Jr. shows. I kinda wonder if I just hallucinated some of them? Does anyone else remember...

    Maya the Bee
    The Little Bits
    David the Gnome

...and the one with the koalas. I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it. But I remember the main character was a young girl, and she would talk to the koalas living in the eucalyptus tree outside her window. I know it must have been a real show, because I never would have known what the hell eucalyptus was otherwise, at least at that age.

And a little later Ren Hoak would make me the man am today. (Critic of everything)

Though i really only remember Sooty, Sweep and i think the Panda was Sarah or something unoriginal.

Im so going to have to change my AV now i think. Sweep is as cute as i imagined as a kid.

Maybe it expanded, but i thin k it was called "The Sooty Show" Time to ebay hunt.

Lamb Chop's Play Along. I still have my little lamb stuffed animal...her name is Lambie Pie.

And I'm not sure if this is a kid's show or not, but I saw an episode of Goosebumps (the one episode I ever watched, and I wasn't allowed to read the books) that left me to this day afraid of the water. So I'd say that show impacted my life, too.

 I have a Lamb Chop's stuffed animal too. I loved that show, along with Sesame Street. I still have my Elmo doll. I also loved watching Arthur, the aardvark. But most of the "shows" I grew up with were computer games that were just basically search and find--Pajama Sam, Spy Fox, Mercer Mayer/Little Critter; plus there was a story lady computer game we had that was really neat. I also had a lot of electronic games that are probably obsolete now.

The Panda in Sooty was called Sue and was the only one who could talk, and the programmes had been around since the early days of television in some form or another, in fact Sooty is still around although sadly not in the corebtt family after the death of matthew (Who was the owner and their "friend" in the series when i was watching) as he had to sell them off to pay for his cancer treatment. Other noticable puppet series were rod hull and emu, which was also a big memory of my childhood. I did watch american imports as well as i had sky When i was quite young so i am one of the few enghlish people that remembers punky Brewster, and one of my favourite shows was Out of This World. I was also a huge fan of Danger Mouse and Fraggle Rock, as well as series such as Knight Rider and the A-team
